Well considering D3 isn't going to be cutting-edge graphics, I'd say 4GB Ram and Quad Core are DEFINITELY overkill. However, I'm not going to say don't get it because simply put, buying anything less at this point is a waste.
I would wait on it, let the prices of Quad Core normalize as it becomes the adopted norm for new PC's and then buy a higher-end one as we approach the beta of Diablo III. 4GB ram is overkill, and can only work if you're going to go Vista 64 bit, but then again you won't ever have memory issues. I think 3GB with even Vista is fine.
As for video card, I would wait on it. AMD is coming out with efficient cards that are looking to reverse the growing trend of making video cards bigger, hotter and more power-consuming. I think you'll find in the coming generations of video cards, efficiency will increase dramaticaly along with graphic-computing power.
I have an AMD Athlon 5600+ Dual Core with 2 Gigs RAM and 8800GTX MSI Nvidia card. I'm sure I'll run the game on pretty much max settings. I'm wondering if they will make widescreen resolutions native, because if they don't, my 47" LCD is gonna have to be retired when it comes out.
Good thing I don't take your tips on buying hardware. Shame you spent all that time giving advice that you wouldn't necessarily follow yourself.

The Barbarian is from Arreat, a very cold snowy mountain top, but they are much tougher than normal humans, so they don't need warmth.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees
Epic quotes... all of them
