I been thinking about HC PvP and i think this could turn into an epic money making scheme for Blizzard. Call it the Gladiator arena, only 1v1, if you die in the arena that character dies forever!! Since we are already using real money to buy items and sell items why not use real money to give to the winners of these battles.
Plus, if they still have the option for hardcore permadeath dueling, everyone wins!
Fair point, but I still think the entire concept of arena pvp for HC mode in that sense breaks the hardcore mantra off at the hilt. HC is about risking it all every time you leave town, imo.
The problem is that 99% of HC players won't want to do PvP then.
So Blizz is figuring (probably, as nothing is confirmed or even really more than hinted) that HC characters could do Arena PvP without risking dying, but would have a separate option for those truly badass motherfuckers who wanted to duel with perma-death.

At the risk of sounding like a prick: I think that means they shouldn't be playing HC.
I can see where there could be an audience of players that like risky pve, but don't want the same risk in pvp. I totally get that, but we had (non-gank) HC pvp before and I don't think there's any reason to suppose it would die without a no-death implementation.
I could see them implementing a very harsh penalty for dying in HC arena maybe something like losing xp or even levels.
I just can't imagine hc pvp without the actual death consequence. Seems like a very bad design change to monkey with that as it's literally the defining characteristic of the mode. Ultimately, as an HC player, i'm all for implementing some pvp, but I don't want to see an entire death-less leage of extrordinary arena players evolve out of this.
