2h are usually better (at least until you start getting much needed affixes on your gear) for classes that can't generate their resources with attacks (wizard, witch doctor) as they just have X number of attacks they can do with their big nukes before they have to wait Y seconds until their resource is filled back up.
Not necessarily. It all depends on the skills you're using. As a Wizard, you would want higher attack speed if you are using spells that channel (as the full damage is applied faster at a constant rate) or abilities that are more effective with lots of spamming. The same applies for a Monk or Barb, if you focus on using 1 BIG nuke, then you're better off with a 2H weapon, because increased attack speed won't benefit that nuke.
Yea but 2 handers have a better range and using some skills you could technically slash up to 10 enemies where with little hatchets and other kids weapons you are limited to around 3, though obviously smaller weapons are faster, the big guns do more area damage.
That only applies if you're using an area ability like Cleave. Generally your weapons don't increase the range of AoE abilities, which have a fixed range e.g. 12 yards. And it makes 0 difference for single target abilities.
Channeled abilities do weapon damage over a period of time related to the weapon speed. So it really doesnt matter if you have a fast weapon. With a fast weapon you might do 50dmg over 1.2 seconds while channeling. With a slow two hander you might do 75dmg over 1.5 seconds. So no, you don't always want fast weapons for channeled abilities.
