This thread actually slowed down for awhile. There wasn't a post for a good hour or maybe even a bit more. Read the last few pages, a lot of people agreed to disagree and a lot of people decided just to wait until we get more footage and screenshots.
Well, I believe that if you want the dark gothic feel, you don't need to completely change the graphics, just change the lighting, like in the dungeon how it is blue, just change it to a more gray, but when you're in the wilderness how could you really give it a dark feel lol.. It's been 20 years since Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal walked the earth. It is a better place now, it's not as dark. Like the pictures that the gentlemen posted to start this thread, that's all you have to do, and Voila!! You have a darker feel. Graphics don't mean shit to me, lighting can change and you've got your darker vibe. I agree, I would like a dark vibe, but it wouldn't kill this game if it stays the same, and all people who bitch, know when this game is released that they're going to buy it also.
The change from blue to grey is the colors but it would even look fine just by making it so the dungeons are just darker (light wise) in general. They can do whatever they want outside, inside the dungeons though there should be a lot less light.
And here we go again with the negationism. Its getting very tiresome you know.
Why does Blizzard even show you anything anyways? According to you they shouldn't even bother. You argue on the presumption that we can't tell anything and everything is unrepresentative of the end result, i on the otherhand argue with what is given to us, i actually use the information as a basis to my arguments and you simply disregard it all. Oh how i wonder who's more valid.
Please indulge me in the definition of "wrong" and tell me "different" can't ever be considered "wrong", heh, a cat is a dog, is that "wrong"? No its "different". ahem
Is different wrong? In the right context it is. In the context of Diablo WoW is different. Is WoW wrong? Nope. Is Diablo wrong? Nope. So they MUST be super right together, rite? Nope. Tell me, how is it "more" right to go further away from Diablo and move closer towards WoW from the perspective of Diablo? How can that be "more" right? Does Diablo not define Diablo? Does Diablo WoWinated define Diablo more?
Ask yourself this; "why is the art different"? If you answer me with "technological advances" then i know for a fact you're lying straigth to my face.
I respect that you want Diablo, i want Diablo, i don't see how valid criticism will prevent you from either wanting or getting Diablo. Furthermore you made it perfectly clear looks don't matter (wich is funny cause looks are infact apart of Diablo, so that means you only want parts of Diablo and not really Diablo as a whole, wich makes you kinda less of a fan, innit?) so why on earth are you defending Diablo 3's looks, they shouldn't matter, correct?
Answer me this, how is "strong story", "good gameplay", whatever, relevant to how "amazing" D3 looks? How is that a reason to not criticize its cartoony looks (wether positive or negative, wich is subjective)? How can you not tell me its looks and direction of art weren't a big foundation of the Diablo experience as a whole? (wether you liked them or not or doidn't care, i don't care) And if you could, then how could you ever tell me D3 infact does look amazing in the context of Diablo?
Last question, why do you bother? This entire thread seems to be irrelevant to you anyways.
Wasn't able to actually read that entire thing but I think I know what you're saying. If people don't have a right to point out what they think is wrong, then why do they think it's alright to post threads about everything that's great!
Especially considering the game is in early stages after all, and all those great parts can change.

(Not my actual thoughts, just something I was throwing out there)
But I wouldn't. You falsely assume that I am not seeing something that you are. I LIKE what I see. I am fine with it. Ready to buy the Collector's Edition right now and enjoy it while you complain. But I believe you should have the right to say your piece. I don't think my opinion is gospel, and I respect differences among individuals.
Haha, alright. I'll accept that. I don't want to complain about the game, I'm trying to find a peace between the people who like it and those who don't.
I have my own opinions on the subject but there is too much flaming going on and fuccccck throwing more fuel on the fire.
I think he meant to wait until beta. I can't be sure. I absolutely think you should make your concerns known if you get a chance to beta test. I disagree with your opinion, but I would want you to have your say.
Well, you disagree with it now but if he had a beta in his hands the playing fields are a little different. We would have more than just a few screenshots to bitch about, we would have the game.
I still play both Diablo I and Diablo II every month. I reread all of the Diablo novels (even that e-book) every six months. I'm nuts about this world just like you. I just disagree.
I look at the same pictures as you and see the grime on the walls and floor, the cracks in teh architecture, the spiderwebs.
You see something less than you expected. I am not entirely sure what that is, but I know it hurts you deeply. You are clearly upset because something you care a lot of about is disappointing you.
If I had to try to put words in your mouth (and many others who dislike the current art direction), I'd guess the part that really bothers you all is that the game is still isometric and not a first person fully 3d experience. We know those are possible with some high level of graphical detail (Oblivion), but we also know those games do not give the fast-paced swarming fights that the Diablo franchise gives.
I'll tell you another thing that could be shaping my perceptions. I have been beta testing and writing about Mythos for my job (I'm even giving away beta invitations right now in another window), You wanna see cartoony Diablo? Go play that game.
I would have liked to see it stay isometric and 2d honestly but I knew that's not what they wanted to do and I never complained.
Everyone is just worried that this will be a nail in the coffin for the Diablo franchise if everything's not perfect. You don't have people hating on Diablo in this thread as much as caring for it. They respect the style of the older games and want to make sure that Diablo III, being the new comer to the family, stays true to it's roots.
Yea, "some dude on gamespot says", great. Why even need demo's and such if all we need to settle our minds is "some dude saying something"?
...It's an interview with the guy leading the team making the game. It's just hosted on gamespot. It doesn't mean he's right but it does show you what they were thinking.
I just realized what we really need. What we need is for Blizzard to address these concerns and let us know if the entire game is going to look like this shit.
What we have going on right now is just pissing people off.
Year it was published doesn't matter... WoW is an MMO and it gets more popular as time goes by.
I love Diablo, but in terms of popularity? WoW wipes the floors with it.
Let's not rekindle this shit.

Actually, I'm pretty sure he's being logical.
He didn't say wait for it to come out. He said wait for beta... There's a difference.
No, I know that. Read the quoted text man. My emphasis was on AND.

That's what I get out of it at least.
Please Blizzard, show us some pictures of more hellish parts of the game. Otherwise you are killing a lot of buzz.

I'm just saying you're opinion is.
That wasn't cartoony either.
More cartoony than I would ever like to see a Diablo game.
Diablo 3 could very possibly be fine as is. I haven't seen everything but based on what I have seen it needs more... balls.
