hah, definitely have to play MQ. Or atleast, just play the beginning. walk your character out of the ship into space, and read what the commander says to you. keep doing it over and over, it gets funnier every time! haha
edit:
@ siaynoq: yeah, I don't like dragons with games in it.
I've just a couple games close to my heart with dragons in them. But all the rest usually also have orcs and elves and all the other atypical fantasy elements in them. And why the hell does my spellchecker have a problem with the word orcs and not elves? They're both fake!
there are christmas elves but no christmas orcs, sadly
yeah, I don't like all those different races. I mean, what the hell, where did they come from? its not like they are real people in the real world that will get angry at game companies for not including their beloved race.

Who knows though. Maybe some really do see it as a risk to take a shit on convention. I've said over and over though that what is so great about Diablo is that it doesn't have all the typical fantasy elements in it. At least certainly not as much. Sure, it has the whole Heaven vs. Hell theme which is fairly played in the movie and gaming industry, but I also feel there are enough twists to Diablo's take on it to still make it unique. The biggest being that there is no discernible God or Satan. It's just the forces of Hell against the forces of Heaven.
And even the magic in Diablo seems a bit more rudimentary, elemental, and maybe even a touch of the scientific. Where most magics in other games are bright and fantastical and glittery.
apparently the races came from Tolkien (LotR), because thats how a game with elves and dwarves and all that is described.
and yeah, thats true. Diablo seems stereotypical at first glance, but the feel to it is so different to anything else.
I love the metaphorical description the manual states about the Nature of Magic.
Some scholars use natural manifestations to explain the workings of the universe. In a common archetype, the physical world is linked to the sky while the ethereal realm of magic is set as an ocean. If we follow this line of thought, spells are much like turbulence that occurs where the two interact with each other. During the Sin War, Demon and Angel alike wrought powerful magicks that threatened to tear the fabric of reality apart. The physical and magical realms began to blur and merge, which, in our archetype, would be the equivalent of a fierce hurricane.
I also like how you have the elemental magics, Druidic magics, the holy auras, the demonic magics, the powers of the Priests of Rathma. And all these different magics how trade offs and benefits. It's all very interesting.
The Elder Scrolls seem like good games, but their magic SUCKS. lol, I hate it. and I hate 'buying spells' that you make yourself. It ends up being that the richest person has the best spells, which makes it economical. pure skill and natural talent is better.
oh man, cannot wait to see what new spells we'll see for Diablo in the future.
Eh, the whole spellcasting and leveling system in Morrowind needed a drastic overhaul and it never got it. Still love that game though. Better than Oblivion it was.
Lander is kinda like a FLYING simulator. E.g. you get a ship with the worst controls ever and you use it to fly through corridors, trying to crash as less as possible... Wing Commander is not that way, I think.

i liked the overall feeling of Morrowind, but the world was huge and there wasnt much of a way to find the quest target you needed without having to read dialogues as big as a couple books. For this i liked Oblivion more and for the fact that the dialogues were actually spoken.

Well I quit wow, after a few years of playing it things became repetative, friends lost interest thus causing me to find something else to do. (after about my 4th lvl 70 things went became a tad bit dull)
I played Guildwars for a while, got about 8 lvl 20's with decently good gear, couldn't find a decent guild to run anything with, pvp was mildly amusing at best. Waiting to see what Guildwars 2 has to offer.
I tried hellgate london out for a while, I played the game in alpha, played it in beta; I kept hoping for a great turn of events. But of course EA had to basically force these guys to push an unfinished product to the shelves and that hampered it an severely crippled game play. Who knows it could have a great come back in an expansion or two, we'll see.
I was playing Lord of the Rings online for a while, decided to give up that great game; there wasn't enough of a player base at the time, I played the game back in beta an loved it an got a elf hunter to about level 36 on the Nimrodel server. (been considering getting back into it)
As of late I've been playing Call of Duty 4(PC), and The Witcher, I'm eagerly awaiting GTA IV and Age of Conan. Those games should keep me busy for some time, and not to mention Battlefield: Bad Company, I've been having mixed feelings but I think the overall turnout of that game is going to be a good one.
