While I agree it needs to be something that can be switched on and off, I'b bet that it will not be an in game item like a charm or anything.
First of all, a big thanks to everyone for the replies. I want to take time to go through them all.
Really interesting point about the wings. Could this mean in the future that we may see other cosmetic items? And is this something the community would want?
Hmm I haven't preordered yet because I've been waiting for CE announcement...
From others experience, do stores like Gamestop do midnight release for preorders? I would like to get the CE and would be awesome if I could pick it up down the street at midnight rather than having to wait the extra few days for it to arrive in the mail.

Well I'm currently wrestling with the idea of just running over to Wal-Mart at midnight to pick up the CE, as my Wal-Mart is approximately 7-10 minutes away where the closest GameStop is 25-30 minutes away. Also my local Wal-Mart usually orders a few CE's of games.
I've personally never used Amazon (or related sites) to pre-order games, but I had a friend who would pre-order games from there and actually get them a day early. Jelly was had.
It's a one time purchase for something that has been eagerly awaited for nearly 10 years... well worth 40$ that most of us can make in less than 30 minutes lol
Not all of us are up for getting our knees dirty, bro.
To be honest, I would probably buy the collectors edition even if it came with a smelly rotten hot-dog in it. How often does a new Diablo game come out. I'm pretty sure it's my type of mentality that Blizzard is counting on.

I know that Best Buy doesn't do midnight releases. Wal-mart does though.
I've pretty much decided against it, I was planning to buy the CE but it's not that great and the fear of not getting it on launch day is too great. If Blizzard offer a free digital copy with a CE purchase then I will most likely change my mind and order the CE, otherwise the basic edition will do for me. In an ideal world I'd love to see a digital CE.

The question isn't why do I kill. The question is, why I don't kill everybody.
Everyone will have to gauge how much each of those are worth it to them.
I'd definitely skip drinking those beers for a couple weekends, or not talking as much on my cellphone, or even buying another high profile game (like Battlefield 3) to be able to put those extra couple bucks into a collector's edition, but to each their own.
That artbook to me is worth a lot more than they're charging, I love seeing all the art that led them into making such an awesome game. The usb drive, the in-game wings and the other things are just icing on the cake for me.

Yea the artbook does look really nice. I wonder if the CE items, will be available for sale individually later on? The CE certainly does have a lot of unique and cool items.
I don't care about the soundtrack but I'd also like a digital CE option with extra in-game fluff.

So, yeah, it's worth it to me. I love Diablo and Blizzard. I did the same thing with StarCraft 2.
