That's rather part of the point. Runes are the new "build." It's a soft inhibition on your ability to swap to any skill combo you want at any time. The "respec cost" is trading runes on the AH.
THAT sir, just blew my mind. Very astute point indeed.
Reminds me of how charms worked in D2. Nice system.
Can you imagine looking through all those runes on the AH?
No, only the miniscule most valuable percentage.
Without filters it would be impossible to sort through them all in a timely manner.
This is what AH is for... intelligent search, not spamming through trade games trying to find your rare item.
Did you really think you were finding anything on a global AH without a filter? Or have you just never used an AH before?
#2) Not enough inventory space.

Yah I have used several AHs, but never have I seen one with numerous filters.
That is just way too much crap to sort too.
And what about new people to the game?

No its not....they said they didnt mind switching skills.
They just didnt want you to sit around with your skill tab open the whole time, and if they had to(They dont want to) they would force players to goto town to switch.
Unless you can find a blue post where they indicate they want to limit your options by inventory space, there is just no way to defend this one.

One is never hurt by being given additional choices, only by taking them away. A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!
ARRRGGGHH!!! 50 MILLION ROONES!?!? TOO MANY RUNES!!!! WHAT SO EVER WILL I DO!!?!?!?
1. sell them on the AH
2. sell them to a vendor for gold
3. dis-enchant them for mats
4. trade them
5. drop them on the ground
6. drop them on the ground and taunt them
7. drop them on the ground, then taunt them, then eat them, then taunt them a second time
8. eat them with some fava beans and a nice chianti
9. build a potato launcher like your nerd friend built in college and launch them at deckard cain
The possibilities are literally endless. Use your imagination.
troll much?
I suggest you stop using the term "troll" if you don't know what it means.
So if you cant find 50 unattuned level 3 runes in the first two acts of nightmare you will be shocked, fine. I dont know how rare level 3 runes will be. I dont have a problem if you find runes to upgrade your skills in the same tempo as finding improved gear. This is for the whole game and not only lower-mid levels. But being stuck somewhere because your playstyle doesnt working anymore, not because it sucks, but because you werent lucky with your runes, is not fun for me. This is my only concern.
I guarantee that if you play solo in Nightmare and Hell, that you WILL become stuck at at a particular stage, constantly Dying. Did you not play nightmare and hell modes in D2? This is Diablo, its about gear (be it armor/weapons/runes).
Not really correct, ladder resets with hardcore character is all the proof you need, experience/knowledge is quite a powerful thing combined with mediocre gear.
Is there any concrete info on how runes actually work? Doesn't say much on the wiki, and I'm a bit confused with all the different answers I've gotten on this site.
Say I find a rank x Indigo rune, can I then just slot in a skill and then move it to another skill if I wish to? Or does it stay in the skill I first put it into until I destroy or replace it?
There is no official word on how runes are going to work yet.
The way they had worked prior to the D3 press event was that runes dropped with a known level and color, and could be moved around into different skills freely.
Jay Wilson talked about a new potential system where runes would behave more like other item drops:
1. They would drop "unattuned" without a color, only a level.
2. When socketed into a skill, the runes gain a color at random, and become attuned to that skill. The rune at that point cannot be used for any other skill, but could be removed and placed in the player's inventory.
3. He also mentioned that when runes are attuned, they might have additional passive stats like you see on gear.
So the final system is probably somewhere in between. Hopefully they decide to tell us soon (Blizzcon?).
