For the two or three other Star Trek fans on this site, I just thought I'd tell you that the new movie is not coming out in December like I thought. I was really disappointed as I just learned this today. Maybe the rest of you already knew; but it seems it has been pushed back as far as May '09. Drag.
I think they've had a '2009' graphic at the end of the trailers for a while, now.
I can't remember exactly when, but they announced the shift to '09 some time ago.
I think casting was one of the issues, if I remember correctly, but don't quote me on that.
Possibly the worst thing Voyager did was make the Borg look incredibly weak and stupid. When the Borg are supposed to be this seemingly invincible foe that the best defense against them is just to run away.
DS9 was the strongest of the incarnations, next to TNG.
I lost track of Voyager after I got promoted at my job (I had been running master control at the local UPN station, and I ran the network first-runs of Voyager on Wednesday nights, and the second-runs on Sundays, so I was glued to it for at least half of its life, but I missed the last, I think three, seasons.)
Sisko is possibly may favorite captain. Possibly more than Picard.
I thought the concept of DS9 was cool. The Federation establishes a base near Bajor and become the stewards of the only known stable wormhole that leads directly to the Gamma Quadrant. I think DS9 had a problem in the beginning with character development and overall plot, but once it got its footing, the show became really solid.
I also like the religious background to the story. You have Sisko who the wormhole aliens have chosen almost as their wild variable, and because Bajor worships the aliens as prophets, they have this reverence for Sisko that he was almost always uncomfortable with. And as he became a little more comfortable with the role, he then began to feel conflicted between his duty as a Federation officer and his holy duty to Bajor.
Well, I did say possibly better than Picard. In some situations I would prefer Sisko over Picard but not always.
I am worried about the movie as well. Mainly because I want to see Star Trek move forward but this is a prequel. I also hear there is some time travel in it which Star Trek as done way too much of. The whole idea is so overplayed.
A'ight, I won't argue anymore regarding the strengths or weaknesses of any of the incarnations.
I, personally, like them all, for various reasons.
If you don't, that's cool.
I, too, am a little wary of the new film, although, I like J.J. Abrams' work, and Simon Pegg being cast as Scotty is just too cool; the writers have written for former series favorites of mine (Alias, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena: Warrior Princess...)
p.s but you got to love the doctor in voyager!! he is awesome!!
Yeah I do like the Doctor, but not when the episodes were just about him. All that crap with the "Just cause I'm a hologram doesn't mean I don't have rights" crap was all done anyway with Data. He was just like Voyager's Data as far as trying to explore his humanity. Not that I blame the writers for giving his character that direction, otherwise how can he really develop as a character. I just thought they took it too far sometimes.
And I didn't know they exceeded warp 10. Must have missed that one.
I'm really excited that Karl Urban is playing Dr. McCoy. I think he's a really great and underrated actor. And that guy playing Spock, holy cow does that look like a young Leonard Nimoy. It's almost uncanny.
Dude... and, like, no love for Simon Pegg, as Scotty?
That guy's awesome. I just hope to see him do some more serious lines. Scotty's character was always kind of unfortunate in that he really had no development. It was seriously just this guy from the engine room complaining that she cannot take it any longer, captain.
anyone else get frustrated when watching startrek that they take so fucking long to fire back? and how they apparently have no knowledge of tactics when facing enemies with fasers or however they are spelt.
also wtf most of the time when meeting a hostile enemy and they are getting fired at, its usually that they get their shields knocked down to like 40%, then they realize that they should probably fire back... i find this extremely frustrating....
