Last week a women working for the Denver zoo walked into the cage of a jaguar and was attacked and killed. In response to this the zoo put the animal down. My question is, is this right?

Angus the peasant saw the necromancer raising the rotting remains and ran away. Since then he told the tale of how he narrowly escaped the necromancer he called "juicy bones".
Animals are not responsible for themselves, so, no, obviously, unless there is more behind the story and the jaguar is an excessivly aggressive type, still, they could have transfered him to some reservation.
even if the jag was aggressive the woman should have known better. its just sad.

people want to see the jaguar killed. its just an animal and the animal took a human's life, so the fitting punishment is death. I'm sure if you knew the person you'd want justice done.
People are stupid and cowards. Just because they want something doesn't mean it should be done.
The fact that it is an animal makes it innocent, because animals are agressive by nature. And you can't change nature without a long process of training, and even then it lies on the trainer.
The punishment of "death" is not fitting even when a human takes a humans life, what to say of some mindless animal? You can't punish an animal and call it justice. It's your falt you put it in the zoo.
That's not an argument. I have not been in the situation, and I'm not sure what I personaly would have wanted. Because that is NOT justice. That is stupidity of the person that got killed and of the people that didn't get what actually happened. In any case, my opinion would not matter.

Are you serious? You value a animal's life over a human's life? As you said animal's are mindless, so what good does this dangerous animal pose? Maybe the owners of the zoo or whatever neglected the person's safety and there's probably more to the story, but the animal is nothing compared to a human's life and IMO it should of been put down. How disgusting would it be if they didn't? I'm pretty sure anyone who knew that person in any kind of way would agree with me. I couldn't imagine what kind of rage I'd succumb to if a worthless animal took a person's life I knew.
I never made that statement. I said that if a human is not killed after he kills somebody, even though he is fully responsible, an animal shouldn't either. I'm simply saying your "fitting punishment is death" makes absolutely no sense, since that is not considered a fitting punishment in our society.
There are some humans whose life I value less than that of animals. A cold-blooded killer is a lot worse than an animal to me, I don't see why should that person's life be of value.
What good does this animal pose? It is the same as to ask "What good are zoos for?" And I don't like zoos, and I wouldn't mind the jaguars in reservations.
Explain why this particular animal should be put down, since 99% of jaguars will kill a man near them. If an animal should be put down, a serial killer must be, he's a lot more dangerous.
Disgusting? Yes, when people die of stupidity is ugly, but they do, and it's not the animals' fault.
Your rage is only a mindless emotion, as mindless as an instinct of an animal to kill. Unfortunately, we cannot control them.
Revenge is a bad feeling, even addressed to an animal. If a man killed the person, would he be killed? No. But an animal would, because it has no rights. Back in old times, a Negro would.
You can't understand one thing - the animal is innocent. Yes, it is an animal, but it doesn't matter, it's still a living being, and we have forced it to live in such conditions, we have set it aside from its natural habitat, and it means WE are responsible for it. If anyone should get in trouble, it's the zookeepers. Punishing the animal in this way is the same as going around shooting mockingbirds for fun.
its no matter of strength.. is intelligence.. becose they use more the ntelligence than the strength becose the last thing they look for is violence
^^ and if they have to uset they use yudo movement becose is the
most pacive marcial art focused in.. sorry if i write this wrong becose im
from Chile xD..keys???????????? sorry again if im wrong to deprive
the enemy movement..
Your example of a woman lacking common sense still hardly supports why women shouldn't be allowed on the force.
This was a new topic. It dosent have anything to do with police officers. sorry for the confusion.

i value a human life over an animal but i dont think it shuld have been put down unless it was a repeat occurance, if the animal was showing that it was agressive to others than it wouldnt be safe to be kept in a zoo, and since you cant return them to the wild sadly their is only one other option

If you ever meet a hafling and a hungry dragon you dont have to outrun the dragon, you only have to outrun the hafling.

Man is not an animal in this sense. And if you think man isn't agressive, go read Lord of the Flies by William Golding... of watch Fight Club or LEXX. Unlike animals, we are able to override our instincts and think in a more complex manner, which is why we are able to build a society that works hard to shut out most human instincts. But remove that society, and, oops...
There is nothing wrong with the animal. A normal jaguar will leap on a human if the human didn't behave in some special fashion. It was stupid to be in the same room as the jaguar, that is the real problem. Places where tigers live are always wired and all. Only special zoo workers may go in there, but they know how to behave so animals don't go leaping at them.
Women should be in the police force, but i think the police training and test should be way more tougher. I personally have been taking people down for the last 12 years of my life im a wrestler, and its about 80% strength and 20% percent technique. Sometimes women and even some men cannot draw their night stick or gun in time and its a battle.
Women should be allowed but like I said the test should be alot tougher and the way they are trained (undersized) should be applied, but not only to women undersized men should be trained harder and more pratice.

Ah, but animals and humans are obviously different.
Explain why this particular animal should be put down, since 99% of jaguars will kill a man near them. If an animal should be put down, a serial killer must be, he's a lot more dangerous.
Disgusting? Yes, when people die of stupidity is ugly, but they do, and it's not the animals' fault.
You show so much sympathy for this petty animal, and yet little for the deceased human. Doesn't the fact that this animal killed a human, a human who probably has a family and people that mourn her, and it still lives seem disturbing?
Your rage is only a mindless emotion, as mindless as an instinct of an animal to kill. Unfortunately, we cannot control them.
Heh, don't get unrealistic to try and prove a point. You don't think you'd get mad if an animal killed someone you knew? That's silly
Revenge is a bad feeling, even addressed to an animal. If a man killed the person, would he be killed? No. But an animal would, because it has no rights. Back in old times, a Negro would.
Again, animals and humans are different. We grow cows just to kill them to feed us, so it means little to us morally to slaughter animals.
You can't understand one thing - the animal is innocent. Yes, it is an animal, but it doesn't matter, it's still a living being, and we have forced it to live in such conditions, we have set it aside from its natural habitat, and it means WE are responsible for it. I get your point don't get me wrong, but I can't seem to ignore the fact that if a worthless animal killed a human being, it should just be relocated or nothing should be done to it.
I repeat, "fitting punishment is death" makes no sense.
The human is an idiot, at least from the standpoint we can see it. As dopple wrote, he shouldn't have been in the cage. It is absolutely his fault only.
And let me put it this way. I like animals, I like children, for their innocense, the uninvolvment in the evil of the people. Adults I don't like. And your attitude towards this animal is one of the reasons I don't. Hatred is bad, ongoing hatred is even worse.
No, it's not disturbing, because it's the person's fault.
I have heard of cases when people who lost their relatives at an animal but didn't go on to kill the animal. In fact, I would say that many people treat an animal like something non-living. You won't break a knife if you cut yourself with it? Because a knife is nothing. It's low and below. An animal is similar. It's not even there. It's like an automation.
I don't know how I will behave, I have not been in the situation. I'm also rather unemotional, for your information.
We grow cows because we need to. And no one goes around slaughtering animals except the butchers themselves. We eat them. That so damn different.
There is no need to kill a jaguar. It's pointless. They should skin them, at least.
Also, the absence of morals to any living being is a bad thing, however low that being is. Most people that sadist on animals are complete jerks. That says something about how we should treat our minors.
I can't seem to ignore the fact that an animal is killed for something it's not responsible for.
Well don't just say man is aggressive. You're just preaching to the choir. Perhaps we should discuss why man is aggressive. Even though this discussion should've been placed in a new thread long ago.
