I really wish we could just buy beta access direct from Blizzard, because as it stands people have a better chance of winning large sums of money playing the lottery.
And you have a better chance of getting hit by a meteor than winning the lottery. So with advanced mathematical knowledge I deduced that you'll get hit by a meteor rather than getting a beta key.
So blame Blizz if you are one of the unlucky few to get hit by a meteor on Des 21 2012 and don't say I didn't warn you.
Those who have 0 money but 100% heart then? Ever stoped and think about them??
Im a big fan of Diablo (and only Diablo!) and I dont care about WoW or Starcraft. My friend had an account and when he was here I could try it out, and as I did I made videos about it.
Yeah I dont understand why they didnt just allow people to buy access to the beta...It would have given them more money. The only thing I can think of is that maybe they dont have enough servers or whatever but we r talking about blizzard they r not a small company. I know xbox and pc r totally different but if EPIC games can do betas for gears of war 3 then then blizzard can do paid betas too. So frustrating...
The main point of the beta is a stress test in small scale. They are using a small server and testing with just it so then if something goes wrong they don't have a tun of servers to deal with . Its not a matter of what they could do, its what should be done. Besides, once you get the beta you'll only ask for more content. Getting in the beta is both a blessing and a curse.
Lot of people use the beta as a preview of what to come, when its actually to test the things.
All the people that thinks Blizzard changes things too often have no business being in the Beta, in my opinion.

Mister, there you are wrong. Beta will do fine without "more content". But never mind, I wont get to play more.
If you have a beta, stick to it until your fingers bleed!

that makes sense about wanting to fix things with fewer servers then many. I rather have the blessing and the curse and play the beta then keep watching videos of other people playing it. worse blue balls ever

Its really not as epic as you think it is.. yea the very very very 1st play though is cool, but after that... you can face roll it in about 13-15min on your 2nd play though, and you spend 90% of your time in "Cathedral" type tileset, so it all gets really old.
Horrible idea; *hey blizz; take my money! Sure; the beta won't be worth anything in a few months and I would have wasted it but at least I got to play a buggy, broken and often changing version of D3 before everyone else!!!*
I realise it is hard to believe; but the beta isn't great. Also, with all the changes you play it once or twice per patch and then decide on things you like / don't like and go away for a month or so again.
I thought the Beta was good enough. And you play like 20-100 times before each patch. And I did not even had the beta! Oh no, I had a friend with an account over.
How much would a beta key cost? They only need a certain number of players, so the price would be determined by the intersection with the amount of required players. Would you really be happy with a 250 dollar beta key?
The alternative would be for them to offer it at a lower price (say... 10 dollar?) but only offer a limited amount. This would result in this exact same situation we have now, only discriminating against poor people.
I don't see how them selling beta keys could solve anything... anything at all.

I'd say $5 for a "stand-alone" key, or $25 if you sign into a pre-order (which would go towards the purchase of the game).
As for what it would solve? It would solve people getting in the beta who want to be, but aren't.
I think the beta is a blast and I definitely would pay for a key. I've logged at least 100 hours playing it and look forward to each character reset. If the first 3rd of act 1 of normal difficulty keeps me occupied for this much time, I can only imagine how awesome this game is going to be.

Maybe they could make it so people who pre-pay in full for the game get a beta key.

100% Agreed.

Only horrible if the price was too expensive.

I tried it, and Im missing out big time. But this is my personal opinion.
