I am a Wizard searching for a Mirrorball +2 still after 17000 shards from Kadala on Orbs. I have 5 mirrorballs and all +1. Anyways, I finally got a Shard Of Hate and it is 2422 DPS @ 1.4 Speed with a chance for a 202% weapon damage proc. I just got a second Shard Of Hate that is a 1378 DPS @ 1.48 speed with a chance for a 221% weapon damage proc.
2422 @ 1.4 with 202% vs 2378 @ 1.48 with 221%
Which will output more DPS? I use a glacial spile MM build with +1 so it seems to proc every cast. The shard of hate basically makes up for lost magic missile in the meantime while I spend more shards for my plus 2. When I have 3 it will be great for my cold build at torment 4-5 until I finally get a thunderfury and can go back to fire w/ conflag which seems to be the ultimate damage dealer. I currently clear torment 4 no problem.
That's a tough one. Ive found a SoH already with 2420dps (my first SoH) and 240% dmg on the proc.
In your case, we have the following situation:
a) 2422 @ 1.4 with 202%:Perfect for resource spenders. Good for kiting tactics, hurling frozen orbs and backing off. It does more on-hit damage and more damage per second aswell. Ideal for Ray of frost also, cause of the lower attack speed (it burns up less arcane power). Slightly less proc damage.
2378 @ 1.48 with 221%:Good for signature spell "proc builds". If you have other procs (like Andariel's Helm, Stormcrow, etc..) it will launch these procs more often, thanks to its higher attack speed. Bad for kiting (a lot less damage per hit), bad for resource spenders.
All in all, use the option (A) if you ask me. Its overall way better. Don't be swayed by the proc damage difference, because the option (B) has less DPS to begin with. And with the larger attack speed, its even less damage per hit. And you ABSOLUTELY NEED that damage per hit. You need to be able to hit hard and move, that way you will deal more damage for the resource cost of your spells. Even DPS-wise (when you sit still and channel Ray of Frost for example), again option (A) is better cause of the higher actual dps and less resource burning.
