First of all, don't get me wrong, I think it's a very noble aim that blizz is trying to make the whole game into a mf zone and I'm looking forward to test it.
But on the other hand... some part of me will miss killing poor old mephi over and over. I actually liked the suspense buildup of looking for him, fighting him, quickly switching to blade of ali baba and then checking the drop. Will this suspense be gone from the game if drop chances are more spread out through the whole level? How will this be in D3 and will you miss boss runs?
I always thought it was strange that Diablo 2 could actually make me experience withdrawal. I suppose 100 consecutive Meph runs isn't healthy haha. I really like the new loot system in D3 - diversity is a good thing. At the same time, I'm sure players will find reasons to farm specific locations over and over.
Oh they will, blizzard even said they know people will find them. But whats great is they also said they would try to make reasons for people to stop that once they find those spots. Should be interesting.
They said all things in inferno will have the same loot table (not same chances of droping something though) so clearing all the trash in say ACT 1 will get you the "same" items as doing the boss of ACT II. But its our choice.
Though clearing all the trash (which still drops same items)youll have a chance to find one of those neat random events.
My guess (as this next part does not have any facts to back it up) is the random events will have a higher chance of dropping items (by a small amount) this would be an easy way to make people want to clear the full acts (and make it profitable as well)
I much prefer to go around the endless fields of enemies in Inferno and just look at the randomly generated dungeons and all that instead of looking at the same scripted area where a boss monster will be located. Also there's a lot more fun if random mobs drop good items instead of the boss you know MUST drop one but you need to log in and out for ages to find it. *ponders* Yep. The first one all the way.
Not one bit. In D2 we did only Mephisto which was boring and annoying after a while.
Yeah i feel the same way. It was fun because it was all we had and finding cool items is fun, but god... a change of scenery would have been nice. I'm glad they're trying to do away with them.
Well if you want to do boss runs, you still can. Whats great is now we arnt only forced to do one boss for the best drops.
Yeah but how will this work? Will boss drop chances be greatly decreased after the first time you kill them? How will they take away the appeal from boss runs? Sure, any monster can drop anything, but what are the odds? If bosses still have a higher chance of dropping stuff, it will just be D2 all over again. And if they don't, then boss runs are removed from the game, because there is absolutely no incentive to do so...
So what I'm trying to say with this thread is that ideally there is no special "mf activity" in D3. Probably if you have decent mf gear and you just play the game, you'll end up with the same amount of uniques/legendaries as compared to meph runs in D2. While I applaud this and think it will make for a way better gaming experience, I'll still somewhat miss the huge difference in drop rate between act bosses and other monsters.

It possible that bosses/minibosses will still drop the best loot, but now we have the choice as to which boss we want to run.
Of course, this choice will probably be driven by which boss is easiest to get to.
