There has been an argument lately about people complaining that there aren't any good drops, then other people complain there are too many drops. One party complains that they need to spend too much gold to buy a good item, while the other party complains they can't make any gold/money because of too many good drops.
Here is my suggestion, instead of everyone being able to sell items on the AH and create their own prices, why not just have a centralized database of various loot, itemized based on level/class/type of loot, and have everyone bid or buyout that way?
I think having Blizzard themselves host the AH would release so much tension from users trying to sell things for an absurd price. Higher level items in the AH are only geared towards hardcore players who invest hundreds of hours in just a little over a month's time.
With the current drop rates for gold, the AH should adjust their pricing for items around level 50 and up. This way there will be no more absurd 500,000,000 gold piece items floating around.

So your upset that there are retarded people in the world? Those items are sitting there because they aren't selling, it doesn't mean that's the going price for something. You're example is a glorified vendor, why would anyone use it?

Why would anyone use it? Well because it would still have the bidding aspect and immediate buyout option. There just wouldn't be the radically inflated price tag.
Do you have any idea how many complaints would be completely eliminated if players were NOT allowed to sell items on the AH? Or maybe, have a player only AH, as well as a Blizzard hosted AH.

...Again my point, if someone is selling an item for 500 million doesn't mean you have to buy it for that amount. How would you control inflation? If there is a bid and buyout process you would have to put a cap on items with certain values (do you know how complex this would be?). The end result would be everything is so cheap that gear finding becomes even less useful or it's impossible to make any gold from the AH and you would just start getting trade games and revert back to D2.

What was the highest amount of gold you've personally collected, on any difficulty? Also, how long did that take, then what was the highest cost item in the gold AH?
There would most definitely be a cap in cost, nothing would be over X amount of gold pieces. There would be various tiered items, points/percentages to different attributes/resistances/attack speed would all vary in price depending NOT on which points/percentages are added to which skill, but HOW MANY points are added. Lastly, items that have multi-class uses would be cheaper than class specific.
It really wouldn't be all that complicated to come up with specific prices.

What is fair value for 1 resist all compared to.... 70 resist all? That’s a huge difference and shouldn't be a basic static value on 1 point. Who would determine all of this? What happens if people feel the prices aren't justifiable, we start patching additional patches for a communist market?
I made 1 million gold before I even hit inferno. Now I estimate I make 100-200k/hour just killing monsters and having fun. The most I've ever spent on the AH was 45K for a weapon all other armor pieces have been 15K or less. I just think you're having an issue realizing the value of an item is what the purchaser is willing to pay. If you’re upset that you can't afford top end godly items without much work I think you have other issues that we don't need to get into.

I'm not complaining on my own behalf what so ever. I was just trying to throw out a suggestion. I've purchased I think 3 or 4 items from the AH all for around 30-50k. I have two primary classes both in the 40's, still Nightmare, so I have no opinion about Inferno.
BUT
I also think it is quite dumb that you can be on level 60 WELL before you hit Inferno, but yet you can't collect enough gold to purchase items that you NEED for Inferno. It's like a catch 22, you can't find items you need for Inferno, unless you're in Inferno...

Your inferno example was mainly true before 1.0.3. but that isn't the case anymore. The first time I bought gear was late hell mode because I was too lazy to farm and wanted to see what the hype was for inferno.
Now realizing you haven't progressed to Inferno I do understand where your coming from. Item's between 10-50 are somewhat more expensive because there isn't a large market for these items. People generally progress to 60 very quickly without needing AH items or they obtain items from another character (farming or crafting)

There are many ridiculous ideas floating around but this has to be one of the worst. You are telling me that when I put an item on the AH I should not be able to put a price I want on it? That it will be dictated to me? How would that even work? How would you determine the worth of an item with endless random possibilites? Most AH prices are dictated by supply and demand. If I put an item up for 900million, it's my perogative, but unless I am a moron, I know it won't sell. Unless you are a moron, you sell for what you think (hope) someone will buy it for and buy items for a price that corresponds to the item's worth, for you. How else would you have it?
What you propose seems like either a vendor or some kind of controlled market that would piss off everyone but you, I am sure of this.
I'm saying you won't have the ability to place any item for sale unless it is during a game...if that is even possible. There will be no player to player transactions in the AH. Only gold purchases directly from a randomly generated, SHOULD be class specific database. That way, everyone is happy, if you want gold, go farm for it.
How about putting this into a real life perspective. Would you rather buy something you NEED from a store, with pre-determined prices reflecting the quality of the purchase, or buying something privately from someone over inflating the price?

I'm talking about NEW things, not used.
Ok.. let's take a step back. Do you think I would put an item up on AH if I didn't think it would sell for the given amount? If so, why would I do that? From my perspective, I would not; there would be no point. Now, if the item was too expensive for it's worth it won't sell, i get to reevaluate the price 36 hours later. If it does sell, then the price was obviously not overinflated.
Now, the way I purchase items is from the sales of items I find. It's a give and take system. I can't take more than my currency allows me and I get my currency from getting items into the system. If items I put up don't sell, I can't buy.
Privided you understand this free market economy (that's what it is), you will realise that if an item sells, then it was worth the money someone paid for it, to that person. Hence the price was not too high. Disregarding all items that do not sell, the AH works perfectly, based on supply and demand.
Your system would take away most of the fun. Why even have item drops from mobs, might as well make them drop just gold. I would know I need to grind say, 3412 mobs to make 250k gold to buy an upgrade:s I am sorry, but I cannot see a single positive aspect of your idea.
Alright, short point that applies to a lot of things other than the AH:
If something costs X of dollars, and you happen to have more than whatever that amount is, DOES NOT mean that the item was worth what you paid.
Porsche compared to Volkswagen, both German made, both were in fact related as far as manufacturing, yet a BMW 5 series is twice the cost of a VW Passat. Both relatively the same size, same basic needs, but one is way more expensive than the other. That doesn't mean that the BMW was WORTH what it was selling for.

BMW > VW, i know considering i've owned a new Golf GTI and a quite new BMW m3 e92 and the price tag isnt that far of. Its not even the same car its not even in the same gener. Dont talk about cars when you have no clue what you talk about. Its like comparing Milk with Cola.
