I was reading the dev live chat earlier and they said that if a higher level joins a game where another player is progressing through lower level content, it would negatively effect the experience gains of that player. This being said, will higher level players be able to jump into normal difficulty public games and kill exp gains for everyone already in there?
this happened to me in beta. i rolled a new char and a lvl 11-13 (can't remember) joined and I literally got 10% or so xp (to lvl 2) up to the point in the bar where the zombies or whatever attack. usually with all new chars you level up there. it was kind of ridiculous. i think it will only be an issue in this circumstance as once you get to the end of say normal everyone SHOULD be closer in level (28-33) i am assuming. there is less variance in level because it takes longer to level if that makes sense.
I don't think it will be too big of a problem, considering if someone joins your game and you no longer want to be in it, you can leave immediately and make a new game (just resume game) and pick up at the last checkpoint. Checkpoints are also fairly frequent.
Half of the diablo experience is meeting new people, so I would definitely advice against this.
I don't know if this was already implemented in the beta, but in D2 you had the option to restrict the levels, both maximum and minimum, a player needed to be in order to enter your game. It makes sense that they would add something similar in D3.
As long as there is a password option for creating games, as there was in D2, it won't matter. I am sure that if they force you to play online, they will at least offer you the ability to create and maintain a completely solo game, without someone joining and impeding your experience gains, if that's what you wanted to do.
yeah, in public games, you can't combat people being wankers, just make private games and you'll be fine, or leave and find another public one with players your own level.
