I tried searching first, but the results said something like "all or one of your words contains only 3 letters"
I don't know what API stands for and I just saw a news update about it, and people seem pretty excited about it. So I want to know what it is, anyone know?
I think it's a way to share data (in this case Diablo III hero profile information) on your own website by pulling data directly from Blizzard's servers.
Yep, it's a way for other websites to pull information from Blizzard's servers kind of like how the WoW Armory works. 3rd party sites can use the information from the armory to give you quick in depth analysis on characters (ex: item level, highest content cleared, enchants, etc) and people have been asking for the same functionality in Diablo 3.
an API is a programming tool/utility , it can do different things, its basically a pre programmed uility to assist in programming things. its like building what you need, in order to really start building something. In d3s case though, seeing as they have already stated there will be no modding (i think), its more likely to be used for extracting information from the client, like the above commenter said. Think thottbot, armory those kinds of WoW database sites, blizzard is going to make it easy for tech savvy people to poke around the D3 files and have third party information sites etc, but because Blizz is making the API, they can control exactly what features are available for alteration/observation. Sorry if this was confusing im not a very succinct person lol

For basic terms, its a way for us to get data from diablo 3, such as Character information/level/achievements Maybe what banners you have..ect Basically all the info that would be on a character armory, we would have access to in order to make our own web apps and websites...ect
