Is anyone else out there desperately hoping that we cannot respec our characters?
I think perhaps the single best part of D2 was being forced to play it over, and over, and over to created tons of awesome (or shitty) characters.

Well, I don't know how D3 will be. But, D2 had a ton of useless skills, and putting points in those skills pretty much meant you lost the game now. That's kinda lame since you basically can't play anymore (SP). What I really want is for them to balance the skills not make it so that half of them are useful half are just pre-req.
Yeah again respec reminds me of WoW... lets not implement every single feature from WoW to Diablo.
I think people should be banned for mentioning WoW. Is it the onyl fucking game you ever played in your life? You have any idea how many games have respecing?

but hey you could always start over.
A game that makes me start over all day long? I'll go play something else... or install Plugy for D3.
I am not allergic to it. You are. Everything you see you go: "that's from wow, that's from wow, that's from wow, taht's wowish". Wow is not the only game in the universe, and if Blizzard adds soemthign that is also present in WoW, that doesn't mean it's 100% a bad thing.

What I was pointing out was just that respec doesnt belong in the Diablo series.
Nothing wrong with that opinion but please don't discard respecing JUST because it's "like wow".
I think have an undo button when placing stats/skills that works until the stats/skills window is closed, after its closed the stats/skills are permanent. Good for miss clicks etc...
Titan Quest does that, and its just nice to have a safety net below you in case you slip

Two things I would like about re-specing:
- that first character you make when your learning the game isn't completely wasted by your unknowingly investing of shitty skills.
- you will be able to play around with builds more freely.
Two thing I would dislike about re-specing:
- this will encourage players to change builds to more effective ones. A surplus of certain builds out.
- the trial and error, rebuilding characters is always something I valued in my d2 expeirence.
Make the respec on skills and abilities alone (not attributies), and charge a hefty price for it. Perhaps gold will actually be a currency worth holding onto?
Maybe have a trial box were a skill goes in and until next level you can change the position, I don't want to be able to re-spec the whole char, thats why I had 13 sorceress, because NONE were perfect and I had to recreate to make it as best as can be.
I think that you should be able to undo your last skill point, but total re-specing is stupid. I understand it for WoW to some degree (oh shit, I mentioned WoW, dont flip out :P) since it takes SO much time to level, but I think even that was kind of lame.
Characters should have minor respecing/undos. Maybe you can switch until you hit level 20, or just undo the last skill you put in. Or both.

Not being able to re-spec was one of the stupidest things in Diablo 2 for me. Playing the game over again for 200 hours just to try another build in the same class is not my idea of fun... especailly only to realize that the build won't work well.
The only possible situation where I wouldn't utterly hate not being able to re-spec, is if all skill trees and strategies were very viable throughout the course of the game, as well as they all need to be balanced. As it is in Diablo2, many builds are just plain useless in hell difficulty, and mediocre ones maybe required important rare items to work well. Being able to get relevant items for strategies (in solo play) should be another important factor.
My hope goes to no respecs, UNLESS they start making serious changes to skills when they patch. If they make a serious change to a skill, refund our points in that skill, that's all I ask.
It's kinda daunting to new players, I think, but I also think it adds a lot of mystery.
