And main dps come from spectual blade and Explosive Blast, these two are medium and short ranged skills, in other words, rune focusing on safety is priority.
It's heavily relied on a good weapon to get a nice dps. It's the disadvantage.

I've been contemplating a melee wizard for a while. I havn't looked to in-depth into the viability of the build, or whether the skills would be what I am looking for, but I know the idea of a melee wizard sounds completely bad-ass. There's a real element of skill involved if you ask me - knowing how to balance melee attacks with spells. When to use what, and what works the best for certain areas. I like it even more having written this post haha.
