This is my theory crafting at a PvP build using only summons. Please don't say "oh no it needs this spell or that spell".. It's a theoretical SUMMON ONLY build.
This is my shot at a summoning PVP build for the Diablo 3 Witch Doctor. It has great control, heals and survivability with descent dps burst potential.
Player Skill Require - Good awareness Player Control - Small cooldown on Hex and constant zombie walls Support - Heals with Hex and a 48 second DPS buff Build Survivability - Very good with good awareness Build Damage - Average DPS with extreme burst potential
Active Skills
Zombie Dogs - Indigo Runestone - Life Link - Dogs absorb 70% of the damage you take
Gargautuan - Alabaster Runestone - Bruiser- Slam + Stun
Hex - Golden Runestone - Hedge Magic - 5300 heal every cast (every 8 seconds)
Fetish Army - Golden Runestone - Devoted Following - Decrease the cooldown by 50 seconds (53 second cooldown after passive)
Big Bad Voodoo - Indigo Runestone - Jungle Drums - Increase Ritual to 48 seconds with a 90 second cooldown after passive
Wall of Zombie - Indigo Runestone - Barricade doubles the width of the wall
Passive Skills
Zombie Handler - 4 zombie dogs -- dogs + gargauntaun get 60% more life
Tribal Rites - Reduce cooldown of hex, fetish army and big bad voodoo by 25%
Death Trance - Reduce damage by 20% when you are below 50% max health
Strategy
The strategy with this build is to have your Zombie Dogs up absorbing 70% of the damage you take. If you ever drop below 50% then your Death Trance kicks in, absorbing 20% more damage. Your hex, which has an 8 second cooldown, will throw out 5200 heals in additional to turning people into chickens. Your zombie wall is very wide at this point and has no cooldown for casting. Expect to use this to trap enemies for your DPS partners to kill or create distance between enemies going after you. If if they blink away or jump over the wall, your wall has no cooldown where their teleport does have a CD.
Life Link + Hex w/ Heal + Death Trance + Wall of Zombie = Good Survivability and control
For dps you will rely on your 4 pets, fetish army and big bad voodoo. As soon as you pop your army, have your partners pop any buffs they have, and then pop your big bad voodoo. Now your pets and your partners should all be buffed to their max and your DPS should be fine. The real strenght of this build is to use your hex and your wall to keep enemies where you want them.
I think the build lacks offensive power. Don't forget BBV and Fetish Arm have very long cooldowns.
I think the build will work fine when enemies will try to kill you and don't get why a WD is so tanky. But once they realise you don't really do any damage, they will just ignore you and kill your allies and then dogpile on you.

After you pop fetish army and big bad voodoo, all of your pets and allies are buffed for the next 48 seconds. This is your offensive power. Zombiewall will help box people in or keep the distance as your pets and allies do all the damage.
This build works best with a barb and monk team mate.
Also, do we know if + damage equipment applies to your pets? If this is the case...
Doesn't have much to do with summoner but for pvp here's my first stab, a dot built with a lot of healing. Not sure if it'll work or not of course but the idea is is you dot up the entire team and play keep away as much as possible with hex/spirit walk.. Huge mana regen, 20% passive damage buff and reduced damage taken when low to let you hit oh sht buttons and recover. http://us.battle.net...Ugid!Wdf!cZYZab Not sure how spirit barrage and whatnot will/not work, it may not be realistic for a keep away build. Probably pick up Phobia Horrify, Rain of Toads, or last and maybe least life link Zombie dogs in place for spirit barrage.
A summoning build will probably boil down to a few things.
1. Does + damage equipment boost your pet damage. If no, probably a pointless build.
2. How well do your pets stick to your opponent.
3. Just how effective will zombie wall be, since it has no CD and can be cast much more often than leap / teleport.
I really want to make this build work.. if not I will take out fetish army for Fear and big bad voodoo for a straight dps spell.
