Most of us use the Invokers Punish build to collect & gear-up our LoN Bomb build, until the point in time where you can clear GR70 solo with what you have for the LoN build (Requires lots of ancient level set pieces) or better, at which point you swap over to the LoN Bomb build.
Even with less than 500 paragon, it's easy now to solo GR70+ / group GR75+ with even a poorly rolled & optimized Invokers Punish set. So people aren't exactly rushing to start playing the LoN Bomb build just yet.
LoN Bombardement is harder to equip but has a higher potential. (But it's also the most braindead build every created)
I was looking at the leaderboards when I saw this build topping the ranks. It looks pretty braindead from the looks of it, but how braindead is it really? From what i could tell looking at the Hero Detail screens, it's really just stacking thorns and waiting for your Belt of the Trove to drop bombardments, so barely any player interaction. Am I missing something or is this really how this build plays?
Well it is not as braindead as you put it here, dammit!
I play on PS4, but as the game is almost the same I think I can comment a bit. I played the invoker when the patch arrived, used that to get my hands on aquila quiras (the updated version) and heart of iron. Rest items for LoN I had already on me. I play on PTR with PC and had tested the build out there so I knew what to gear for. Anyways. There is a couple of things you do with the build besides just "run around and wait for belt of the trove".
Firstly; you time your attacks with COE circle. You attack with bombardment when COE-phys is up. If you have consecration in your build you can use that when ever you want, it updates it damage numbers dynamically so it picks up COE-buff even mid effect. But Bomba snapshots it's damage values from the moment it is casted = use it with only coe phys up.
Secondly; it is fun. Seriously fun. You run around, I use perma steed even on GR pushes (my highest is GR84) if you want or then mix it up with skills like shieldglare or even provoke. Depens on your gear really. If you get massive luck, and get thorns damage on *all your gear* you can run the build w/o heart of iron and still have 300k thorns, and you can drop heart of iron from cube and use it with i.e. strong arm bracers and use condem vacuum to buff your damage.
So yes; if you are not pushing the build is very simple, if you are pushing and/or dont have perfect gear then it becomes interesting
LoN bombard isn't brain dead, it's just a different playstyle than we are used to. To be fair, I've played a lot of invoker punish and I find that to be brain dead in actually a similar way. Both builds rely on toughness and choosing your battles and staying alive in the fray. I say invoker is braindead because you're spamming punish and using your CDs to keep you alive; really not that different than bombard.
I played both builds. Both builds are similar in one point: you have to stack your buffs to maximize your dmg. So you have to watch out for your element cycle and use iron skin when it's up. That's the "non braindead" part. But with Invoker you have to actively use your dmg skills and in high grifts you have to watch your position because you can't just facetank everything anymore, while LoN Bombardement is nothing more than buff tracking. You just run around trying to dodge everything and combine your buffs and belt cycle.
LoN Bombardement is freaking boring. It's fun for a few rounds to just roflstomp everything while running around, but more than that and I can feel my brain cells dying off. Efficiency is not the most important thing.
