While I was playing Diablo 2, I always thought that it would have been cool to have a special quest in which you kill every monster. It would be like the Den of Evil quest, but instead of just clearing the den you would clear everything in all 5 acts. Maybe when you get the total monsters left in the world down to 1000 you would get a countdown in the quest bar like you did for the Den (There are 1000 monsters left in the world).
It seemed like it would be a fun goal to create a game, and completely clear every monster that existed in that game. Some type of reward, or potential for award, could be provided as incentive (similar to World Event Diablo or Uber Tristram). This would also provide replayability for many of the areas that are not otherwise revisited after running through the first time. And, "Slain Monsters Rest in Peace" would be a must!:D
Anyway, I just thought that something like this would be worth including in D3. What do you guys think?
The Scourge of the Fallen: kill 1000 fallen. (you might even get a minor dmg bonus against fallen, or you would have minor chance to terrify fallen, since you have killed so many of their kind)
Can't argue with that.
Great idea.

Watching 240 guys talk trash about cavaliers is like two retards having a slapfight over a sippy cup.
I want a old cathedral where you walk in to a certain point and the floor breaks from under your feet and you find your self surrounded by 100,000 flesh eating zombies in all directions!
You hero says "Time for some fun!"
*cue* heavy metal music.
Kill counter appears on screen, every 50 kills a elite comes at you; each time bigger and stronger.
Sweet. I like the kill 1000 dudes or whatever. I wouldn't want to have to kill every monster in the game. At the end you kill diablo only to discover that there's 1 monster left (probably in some corner of act II).
I always hated that in the den of evil you got one dude left you gotta run all over to find them. Its always the fallen ones. They run away when you kill one so its easy to leave one behind somewhere.
I think ti would be a fun venture, but so much would be changed. To search the whole of the game for the last 10guys hiding through the acts and lands, waypoint by waypoint would make somone kill themself. Solutions could be
*Dotted map. Why not? Every monster from the start is represented by a dot on the map, hell, if you got 2000 demons to kill, your going to need it.
*Eleminates 2 hours of searching every waypoint and act to find the fallen that wasnt COMPLETY killed by blizzard orb...
*MAKES THIS IDEA MORE REALISTIC AND RELIZABLE.
but I do like it.
I do also like what Madchcn1na had to say again, that could be a nice idea. Anyone ever played Kingdom Hearts 2? Kill 1000 heartless/Kill 1000 demons anyone? There would also of course be problems with that, but its easier to sure, 1k-10k demons, would just need to program an increased rate of orb drops, including mana/fury/whatever your energy type was, due to the more-so anti-potion leap D3 makes.

Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.
But I still don't think it's a good idea. It would have to be done in one play, because when you restart the game the mobs respawn and how can you tell which mobs are those who were left alive in the countdown.
Ya, there are some issues with the idea. People would not necessarily have to do it in one play through, but it would lead to people keeping games open for extended periods of time while they were not actually playing. Something that Blizzard surely doesn't want to happen.

Ya, it would be extremely frustrating to search the entire world for the one remaining monster. But the completion of the goal should be difficult to achieve. This would also motivate a person or parties to be thorough and meticulous about clearing each and every area.

It could be fun to make clear areas achievements. Quests should not be more than one dungeon maximum or it will take too long to do it.
There can never be too many achievements, so this is a way to add like 100-200 achievements
I think that this is a more workable idea than giving people an achievement for eliminating all monsters in one session because I hope that the game (or a single difficulty level) will not be able to be reasonably completed in one gaming session. Who can honestly say that they would mind seeing days of content instead of hours?
I like the achievement idea and I think that it might be a neat mechanic if players were rewarded in some way for doing this that was based on the difficulty of the dungeon level. Suppose a group of level 10 guys successfully clear out a moderately difficult dungeon and for this each receives an item which has a solid chance at being useful for a lvl 10 character--rather, each player for whom it was their first time clearing that dungeon and getting that achievement would get a decent item (encourages thoroughness early but also advancement because it is most rewarding to clear every level as each is reached). I suppose this is similar to the way that the boss drops in D2 were better if it was the first time a player killed them (I think that was the case at least). I stress that the rewards should be average to above-average (nothing fantastic, but stuff which might make a nice upgrade from pieces of gear that have been hanging around for a number of levels) if for no other reason than to smooth out a player's gear progression which I suggest might also encourage a less-rushed playthrough.
