Unlike most games in the genre, DIablo is generally percieved, at least in terms of story, as a single player game. One hero descending into the darkness of the laybyrinth alone. One for a much braoder statement, one man (or woman) against the world.
Agreed, but stated from Deckard Cain's journal on the D3 webiste, it is said he was accompanied by a 'group of adventurers' throughout Diablo 2 and Diablo 2: LoD. So this contradicts the one entity against the world theory, unless all the companions were killed during a part in Diablo 2 or Diablo 2: LoD that the journal did not address. Or stretching it out further, Deckard Cain might have gone mad and started writing nonsense, then again the latter is highly unlikely...
