Definitely going a dps/aoe build as my sig suggests. I'll surely be swapping things around as I try things out. However, im not that interested in dmg resistance/dodge monks or reflect monks. I may however go heal monk part time if needed for grouping in inferno. We'll see. Im really liking the dmg output and aoe possibilities of the dps monk though, looks like its gonna be alot of fun.
A female thorn monk definately sounds interesting and fun. Theres nothing better than your enemies killing themselves on your armor. Also it would be real easy to find parties considering you have so much utility between damage and tank.
I belive that the monk will be "needed" in higher difficulty co-op because of his mantras. If not the others but at least the mantra of healing in inferno.
That's my thinking as well. My signature contains my "group inferno" build. Won't be running that setup when I am soloing though.
I believe the Monk can be used as a great supporter, enabling other party members to focus on dishing out the damage.

Yeah that matra of healing will be invaluable in Inferno. If none of my friends pick up monk I probably will just due to all of the utillity he brings to the table. Any group hoping to take out inferno in quick fashion should have at least 1 monk
Picked the DPS Role because i've always been a front lines warrior sort of player. Obviously if the option of several talent trees are available i will go healer off spec :). I really hope someone sees this post because i've been wanting to play in the D3 beta for a long time now. (Favorite class was the Caster in original Diablo and Bone necro + zeal pally in D2X)

i too feel as though dps monks may be a good choice because if your enemy is dead there is no need to thorn or dodge their attacks. By creating such a good offense that you might not really need defense could be possible. Monks are good for many different things and should not be limited to just healing or dodging.
I wanna do fast and agile monk. I think move speed and dodge will be mine prorities. There was some site when you could mix skill calculator with the armory. I made there a ~300% resistance for all elements, but just for fun
Damage dealer for sure, plan on putting most runes in damage. Monk might be my solo character, but if i wind up playing with some friends, might change to more group buffs or dmg reduction/dodge/armor. Monk does look like it is going to be a very fun character to play, I think it is going to be a great in pvp.
I'm very interested by the mobility of the monk, if possible i'll try to play it with a very evasive style. Rushing in and out of melee to inflict as much damage as possible in a few seconds and retreating before the enemy can reply.
You can be at least 3 of those in 1 build so is kind of silly to choose only one, a healer will still do damage and dodge and reflect and shit, your not committed to heal only or whatever..
I'm interested in seeing how a dodger build would work out. I think it will provide good survivability and still put out damage via damage delt when attacks are dodged. Looking forward to testing it out:)
I want to play a heavy hitting, damage Monk and probably will through the lower levels of the game but I'm not 100% sure how it will work out in Hell/Inferno (if I make it that far). I personally feel the Monk has a lot of utility that needs to be used in balance. In the end, I'm sure I'll be putting out fair damage while healing so I'll be a "true" Monk.
I think im going to try to build a reflecter mnk. that will do some healing and some damage. with having 7 skills to use. you should be able to use a varity of skill combos.
First i was thinking of being a straight out of the book healer, with as much healing as possible. However reading the nerfs to breath of heaven, and how i think the game will work in general, i feel that you aren't supose to just go one path "E.G" : HEALER or DAMAGE DEALER. I think that its up to who you will be playing along side with, especially with the rune changes.
I'm definitely leaning towards a healing monk. In all of the games I've played, being a healing/support class always tends to be on the more beneficial side of things. Making new friends in a game is great, and I've managed to hold onto some pretty long relationships with people just because I healed them on a game 7 years ago, or something.
Then again, I do enjoy punching stuff.

These two skills are going to be great for giving the monk mobility on demand.

that is why there is a mixed category
and duel fist weapons
But all in all I will definitely play monk!
An AMAZING Monk.
Seriously though, purely amazing Damage Dealer, Dodger, Healer, so a mixture of some sort.
