First Look at Patch 2.5.0
Earlier today on the official Diablo 3 website, Blizzard posted a first look at Patch 2.5.0.

Patch 2.5.0 is right around the corner! Read on to learn more about the new features coming in our latest patch, including The Armory, Primal Ancients, and numerous quality of life updates.
The Armory
We’re happy to present a long-awaited feature we know you’ve been eager to get your hands on! The Armory enables players to store up to five complete character builds on each character, allowing you to swap seamlessly between set items, skills, runes, and gems with the click of a button.
Any items equipped via the Armory will automatically swap to wherever the exchanged equipment was stored—whether that’s back into your stash or your personal inventory. Gems and Legendary Gems will also swap and, if you ‘ve upgraded or leveled up your gems, the Armory will automatically select the highest quality or level available for that gem type. Lastly, your skill bar will also update to your selected skills, rune, and Kanai’s Cube power preferences, and you’re welcome to name your setups whatever you like!
As a note, the Armory does not store Paragon points, so you’ll need to redistribute those if you have a preference with your build. However, we’ve added a new hotkey to use your points more efficiently. While you can still spend 10 points at a time by holding Shift and clicking, you can now spend them 100 points at a time by holding Ctrl and clicking!
Crafting Materials UI
Sifting through your crafting materials in your stash is a thing of the past! All crafting materials including Arcane Dust, Veiled Crystals, Reusable Parts, Death’s Breaths, bounty crafting materials, and Hellfire crafting materials are stored in a convenient, separate UI tab. Just click the small anvil located next to your gold total in your inventory screen to view your materials.
All crafting materials will be moved automatically into the Crafting Materials tab upon the launch of Patch 2.5.0, so there’s no need to store them somewhere specific before the patch hits. When using your crafting materials at Kanai’s Cube, there is now a convenient new Fill button to automagically transport your items directly into the cube interface for transmuting.
Adventure Mode Updates
Several additional changes are coming to Adventure Mode, from iterating on Greater Rift changes that were made in Patch 2.4.3 to quality of life updates coming for Bounties and Horadric Caches.
First, the frequency of several different tile sets in Greater Rifts has been adjusted. Many of the more frequent areas, like various caves and Keep Depths, have had their appearance rate reduced. On the flip side, wide open areas that were previously rarer, like Festering Woods or Stinging Winds, have had their appearance rate increased. This should, overall, result in a more varied environmental experience in Greater Rifts.
In addition, bonus acts in Bounties are being removed. Bonus Caches previously granted by the old system have instead been combined with the base Horadric Cache to form Large Horadric Chests. These are granted after completing a full set of five Bounties in any one Act and hold the total amount of materials and loot that previously would have been contained in the two separate caches. Now, you can complete whichever Acts you prefer in any order and at your leisure without feeling like every game session needs to be at least twenty-five Bounties long.
Primal Ancients
Players have different goals from Season to Season or game session to game session, and for some of our more dedicated players, there wasn’t a clear progression track beyond augmenting your Ancient Legendary items or completing the Season Journey. Enter Primal Ancients, a new tier of very rare Ancient items that allow you to aim for that perfect set of gear.
Primal Ancients are Ancient items with perfectly rolled affixes. This means every affix including Primary, Secondary, and Legendary are at their ideal value, whether that means the maximum or minimum value. While the items don’t try to guess what kind of affixes are perfect for your build, you can be certain that they will roll with a couple specific rules. First, they will always drop with the appropriate main stat for your class (Strength for Barbarian/Crusader, Dexterity for Demon Hunter/Monk, and Intelligence for Witch Doctor/Wizard). Second, they will always have the ideal number of sockets for that item. For pants, chest, and jewelry, this means the maximum number of sockets. Since ideally you will want to use a Ramaladni's Gift on your weapon, Primal weapons will roll with no sockets.
Primal Ancients can drop from any source of Legendary item in the game, including Horadric Caches, Kadala, and Kanai’s Cube, but only after you have completed at least a level 70 Greater Rift. This requirement need only be completed once per game mode (Hardcore vs. Non-Hardcore, or Seasonal vs. Non-Seasonal), which means it will reset with every Season. However, once that requirement has been met, all characters in that game mode will benefit from it. Happy hunting!
Patch 2.5.0 is almost here! Which new feature are you looking forward to the most? What’s the first build you’re going to store in the Armory? Which Primal Ancient are you dying to get your hands on? Let us know in the comment section below, or ask questions you might have about what’s in store!
R.i.p Diablo
lol....
You have to admit this is at least a "decent" patch, it's definitely better than what we've been given in the past. In my opinion this patch is good enough to hold us over until either the next minor patch, or until the supposed "major" patch included with the Necro expansion release. You guys should lighten up; and if not, go play PoE or Grim Dawn or something. Take that negativity shit somewhere else.
100% agree with you Saucey.
@saucey
Let us know what your friends list in Diablo3 looks like 3 weeks after the patch then tell us if you disagree.
Diablo 3, more like diablo - 3 weeks worth of content every patch.
I look forward to this patch. I'll definitely play a bit now that it will be easier to switch between play styles. And might even do some crafting now that it will be easier. Thanks for the update. Looking forward to the new content alongside the Necro later this year! This game is better than I thought it would be when I played on Day1. It's a great ARPG. PoE is great too but I love both!
Where is the feature to switch gearsets?
@Tybudd Are you referring to the armory? Like... The same armory that's in the above article?
fail
This content is a free and i always appreciate and thankful for what Blizzard doing and still keep doing for this awesome loot hunting game!
This patch adds another layer of a chance to improve character gear to it's perfection, i'm sure there will be more layers of improvements to the gear in a near future, but for now it will keep us occupied for some time.
Thanks again Blizzard team!
Does anyone know what happens when you reroll such items?
E.g. +20% fire dmg will reroll to only +20% other element or can you still get +10/+15% Holy dmg?
Does the patch release on 3/31 with the new season, or will it come out before the new season starts?
a lot of unquestioning and always positive people here. btw: when your positive attitude is tolerated, everything negative should be allowed too.
that being said: still no great patch. either i don't see player discussipn with blues in the tracker, or the news team does handle it different than they guys at mmo champ. i don't see a post from a player concerning i.e. primals 1.0, a blue reacting and tossing some new information around and finally - after a few tweaks and lots of feedback - the new feature. i see a proposed primal 1.0, some shitstorms, a quasi proposed 2.0 which then goes to final and that is it. very disappointing.
now we get some QoL-ish wardrobe which gets sucked up like sliced bread and a somewhat okay crafting UI with a lot more potential. still nothing new in this game except the patch with the fan servicing micropaymancer on the horizon. AFTER blizcon 17 with the diablo booth actually inside the restrooms, stalls 4-8.
So, decision time. Zunimassa's Haunt or Inna's Mantra?
With how the season journey goes, which would be easier to go for as a solo Diabloer?
I might actually do better this time, instead of going from Level 35 Crusader to Season 9 Journey Complete in 3 days (not total playtime, obviously). Running around in Torment to do Keywardens and Malthael was bearable as a Crusader, because you can take the hits and the thorns kills the enemies; but as a Monk or WD, doesn't seem as simple.
He asked because in the earlier PTR patch notes it mentioned "complete at least a lvl 70 GR SOLO"
So they say that for primals, apart from weapons, all items that can roll a socket will roll the max number of sockets. So how will the Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac roll then? all 4 primary stats + socket?
Patch looks nice, quality of life is great too, will allow me to clean up my characters inventory a bit.
But ultimately, this patch, again, only really benefits people who play Diablo 3 ALOT, it's not meant to make players come back. There were ancients, and then Primal Ancients, in 6 months there will be Infernal Primal Ancients, only adding that extra layer of endgame that so very little people even care to tackle already. Ancient Legendary? Bitch, most players stop playing the new Season after they gather their free set. Now Primal. But what about alternative gameplay? New sets, new items, a new spell for each class?
We had this thing with friends, 4 of us, coworkers, would meet at my house, everyone bringing their PC and we would lan the shit out of the Season start on fridays. That was 2 or 3 seasons ago (I don't know for sure, because we lost interest when we realize, nothing new comes out) and it just end up being the exact same night, we would do the exact same activities, exact same loot. Annnnnddd we're gone.
At first, when they started poping new sets, new legendaries, new synergies. We would spend weeks on the game, now, it's big if we even spend 3-4 hours, to level, just for good measure, and then leave for the next few months.
It's great the Blizz tries to make the game more interesting for people who actually stick to the game all year long (how the fuck I don't know but hey). But i wish they at least tried to get some people back with a few features.
But yeah, they need another big content patch with loads of legendaries. IMHO, DHs and Monks have got it best with skill variety (though some are still a tad weak). WDs are in a decent spot too but spirit barrage and zuni builds still suffer. Barbs and Crusaders still has discrepancies with use of the active offensive skills they have (when was the last time Heavenly Fury, Blessed Shield, Rend, Overpower, or even HOTA was end game viable?). And Wizards revolve around Archon for everything which is a pretty poor spot for variety.
IMHO, they need to add in some more legendaries that occupy the typical armour slots. Said legendaries would be primarily utility based to work with LON. Then LON would need to be rebalanced per class since the complimentary legendaries which boosts damage differ between classes quite drastically.
