End of Era 4
Vaneras posted an update about the End of the 4th Era in Diablo 3. With Season 5 starting on Friday, January 15th, that leaves only 2 possible dates for Patch 2.4 to land. Either tomorrow, on January 5th, or next week, on January 12th. Get hyped!
Generally speaking Blizzard likes to releases new patches a little further from a Season start, so that there's plenty of time to fix potential issues. However Patch 2.3 was released on August 25th, a mere 3 days before the beginning of Season 4 - which strengthens the theory that 2.4 would come next week.

In Diablo III, an “Era” refers to a specific period of time in which non-Seasonal leaderboards are active. At the end of an Era, all current non-Seasonal leaderboard standings will be wiped and players will be unable to attain new leaderboard ranks until a new Era begins. Similar to Seasons, players will be able to view previous rankings in-game and as well as on our website.
Era 4 ended Wednesday, December 30. Era 5 has now begun, and Season 5 will begin on Friday, January 15.
All heroes created during Season 4 have become non-Seasonal and are able to compete on the Era 5 leaderboards. For more information on the end of the Season and upcoming Season rollover, click here.
Thank you for participating in Era 4! We look forward to seeing you in Sanctuary.
Stash Organization and Muling
MHM published a very interesting video for those who are just getting ready for Season 5. It contains sound advice for managing stash space, organizing items, along with some general tips related to muling. Some of these will probably get you thinking about your own way of organizing items.
Not really a whole lot of speculation left. According to the Blizzard CS Twitter feed, the only maintenance of any kind scheduled for January 5th is WoW rolling restarts.

i would really like a way to deal with those overlapping items each season. say, a second stash window with all the items you have not yet claimed. an option to replace inferior versions of items with better unclaimed ones. e.g. ancient legendaries replace non-ancient versions. ancient versions with better stats replace ancient versions with inferior stats combined with custom rules and ranges in which items get replaced. and so on.
every season ends, i destroy what i won't need and keep what i would like to keep for spec tests or something. but with all 12 (?) char slots filled (two SC chars, rest is hardcore) and lesser muling possibilities with naked chars, i am constantly pushing large waves of items in front of me. eventually i get tired of that crap and destroy something to make place for something i'd like to keep. sometimes i have a backup barb wearing some of the collected stuff from the last season, when i find some pauldrons in the mails. i could be on a wizard in that moment, so i have the following scenario:
- main seasonal hc barb with said pauldrons, now non-seasonal
- backup non-seasonal hc ex-main barb with similar pauldrons (rolls / ancient status unknown at that moment)
- pauldrons in my stash from the last season
(- maybe even another version from the season before that)
- two pauldrons in my mail
sure, you could say it is quite messy. but i like to have a backup char with good gear, so i want to keep the second-best items for those. i now have to log off, log on those barbs, compare the pauldrons in stash and mail for the first barb, do the same for the second barb and maybe take notes while i am doing that, since the rolls could favor a more aggressive or defensive playstyle. i generally try to keep only two relevant versions of important items, but the hassle to do so is very big.
i would be able to merge two stashes once a season ends, but how? i have one of each class, i have backups. i need different sets for different playstyles and i am constantly overwhelmed by LOTS of mails when a season ends. the only way is the aforementioned, but that takes so much time and isn't really fun. and i really like those drops i collect, so i can't just destroy everything.
it is also very bad to mail hundreds of items to all characters on one account, immersion-wise. it turns your stash management to a chore.
I'll never understand why everyone makes long videos talking about things instead of just writing them down so that people can see the info they want quickly.
What I do (until it broke this season end, but it'll fix again once 2.4 starts and I get one more tab) is have all my class sets and as many class-specific items as I can fit sitting in the character's inventory. Legendary gems are also removed while their inventory is full of gear.
Tab 1 was crafting mats, gems, and leg gems, but now I have so many leg gems this doesn't work anymore.
Tab 2 was an empty tab but now it has 10 billion legendary gems waiting for the enhancement recipe.
Tab 3 is for shared Str items
Tab 4 is for shared Dex items
Tab 5 is for shared Int items
So when I go to play a character I empty their inventory into the empty tab (not working so hot right now) put on the highest level gems they use and then if I want to play something else later swap the whole lot around.
Is it annoying? Yes, but it's not like there's any other space each season (char slots filled plus I don't want to have to check mules for crap because that's even more work.)
I'll also never understand why there is no character independent stash and then a smaller shared stash for swapping gear between characters (like in Borderlands 2, and Torchlight 2, and...)
but if i want some info quick while at work or on my way home, i'd really like to read the bit i need instead of listen to a long video. i am really grateful for the build section on diablofans. *g*
