Gems and GR Changes Reiterated

The developer news and blue post draught continues, and all we had recently were a couple comments reminding us that devs are working on future changes, and reiterating that they're working on solutions to Greater Rift's excessive randomness and for end-game gems to have more uses. Hopefully we should have more info soon™.

Not really no, the post we did informing people why we changed the gem cost was the last post we did on this topic.

I will reiterate that we do have future plans to add more uses for high level gems, but I do not yet have any details to share on this. More info on that will hopefully come soon, but until then please know that the gems you have crafted now will be useful in the future for more things than just socketing your gear. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Greater Rift's Randomness
This thread has been interesting to follow, so I just wanted to thank everyone who have posted so far for the solid feedback :-)
Also, I wanted to comment on these bits, because this is feedback we see regularly:
In current situation you can do whatever you want, play like god and yet if you get a bad rift, or an elite instagib-thunderstorms you from off-screen when you didn't even know it was there and you fail because of that, it simply feels unfair.

That's the whole point, not removal of the wall, it will always be there, but rethinking the experience of reaching it.
We do acknowledge that randomness plays too big a part in Greater Rifts right now, so the developers are looking into making improvements to the Greater Rift experience overall.

The purpose of randomness in Diablo III is to increase the replayability, and this is likely never going to change, but we do agree that there is such a thing as too random. We would like the randomness in Greater Rifts to not only offer unexpected moments of excitement, but also properly test player skill... In short, randomness will always have an influence on your progress in Greater Rifts, but how well a player is able to adapt to the unpredictable should have a greater influence on success than it does today, and this last bit is something the developers are working on. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Scheduled Maintenance

As a reminder tomorrow (or today, for some) NA servers will be under the usual weekly maintenance. Unlike the last time we gave a heads-up though, this time the game will be unavailable for playing.

Thank you for your patience.

Firedawn's Bastions of Will Wizard

Firedawn uploaded a build that has been getting quite a lot of attention lately. A Firebird Wizard who uses the Bastions of Will rings, and some support from other characters, to achieve some insane damage numbers (1.2~ billion damage!), and might be the next big thing for high level coop GRs! Check the build and some guidelines on our tool, or the thread on the official forum. We should have some quality gameplay footage of this build to show soon.

Deadset's Sanctuary Talk

Deadset uploaded another video from the lore-focused Sanctuary Talk series, this time talking about The Mage Clan Wars. A very interesting topic - check it out!
