Console Version of Diablo 3: Offline Play, No RMAH, Not Exclusive to Sony
An interview with game designer Joshua Mosqueira popped up on Penny Arcade in which he explains that Diablo 3 is "not necessarily exclusive to Sony". Here's an excerpt from the interview, or you can view it in its entirety here.

DiabloFans Quote:

There was some question about the offline play of the game, something that’s impossible in the PC version of Diablo 3. It was confirmed to me that the game will be playable offline on the PlayStation 3.

Which leads to some other changes, namely the removal of the real money auction house. “The ecosystems on the PC and console are very different,” Mosqueira explained. “There were some technical reasons we had to go with offline, but again once you have an offline experience, even if we wanted to bring in the auction house, it just becomes problematic. How do you validate? How do you make sure there is no duping or any of that stuff?”

Hands On Console Gameplay
IGN posted a video where Senior Designer Mathew Berger shows how the game plays on the PS3. Here's also a quick summary of what has changed:
  • The camera is more zoomed in.
  • Boss battles have been changed up a bit to make for a more console feel.
  • All classes appear to have a new dodge button.
  • Fewer items drop but they're of greater quality.
  • A small overall statistic of the item you loot shows up on the left of the screen, comparing it to what you currently have equipped and letting you equip the new item straight away if you so desire.
  • Everything up to patch 1.0.7 is already in the game.

There is one more video that almost overlaps the one we posted earlier, but also shows a bit more of the game's UI.

And finally here is a picture of the controls posted on Facebook.

Would like these in the pc version:

I can't complain too much about Diablo 3. I enjoy the game even today. Fast paced, some interesting fights, some minmaxing with gear -10% of what might be and I hope it will be soon-...

But I feel like I was Betaing for the consoles...

If 1.0.8 brings a dodge button and fewer but better items... The we will know that we've been played and I will feel insulted, like someone said. And if 1.09 or 1.1 or whatever even doesn't exist and we must wait till expansion I will rage.

Maybe childish, maybe nerdie... but I will be pissed. Nerd rage is so sweet, and you feel warm and part of a enraged and sweet and warm group... Nerd rage!

-The sad part is that between all this sarcasm is possible thet we've been taking part in the first beta paid by the customers of the history. If in a decade or so, some dark developer earns his week of glory uncovering a lot of rubbish swept under the carpet during the developing of DIII and that is confirmed, then I will feel truly sad-

    What... lol
If you enjoy the game, why are you complaining. This is not an MMORPG, and still game getting updated in many manners, and even expanding on consoles. if anything you should be glad, cause this will extend your playtime more.

If you feel like "pc was a beta", and if thats ur personal opinion and not something some troll have said out of hate, then ur still confused between dedicating time to a game and whining about a game.
  • #48 vodkabringer
Dont hate that much...Imagine that we will still have more experience with the game plus we got through so many difficulties after release...I'm sure there will be many issues with console version that we won't have to worry about. ;)

So how come Blizzard doesn't just ban the account the goods were transfered to Sherlock?

Because then you could harass people by VPNing your own account, and saying "Hey buddy, here's some free stuff I'm quitting D3 :)"

Then you report the account hacked and that guy gets banned.

    Sherlock.

I love how the fanboy posts about how he's buying the console version too immediately responds to defend his glorious Blizzard from any dissent.

He has every right to complain about the game he paid for being nothing but a shitty, feature stripped beta for the console version.

You should also relax on trying to play the superiority game over others when you're the idiot buying a second copy of the same game and wearing that as some sort of badge of honor.

Diablo 3 on console sounds perfect for the people that are whining about AH etc. Yeah, I still cant figure out why tho. For the 1,718.500 time no1 is holding a gun to your head forcing you to use it. Just because other people are using it, no matter how they are buying items. Grind gold, Use money, Daddys wallet, I dont see how thats effecting your game. If its friends doing it. Great get them to carry you for stuff.

I wonder how much money blizzard etc is going to lose once it gets pirated to hell lol.

Blizzard is forcing people to use it with the shear amount of TRASH that drops, they even admitted that drop rates were effected by the AH

“The ecosystems on the PC and console are very different,”

    Translated...

We realized that the AH caused to many problems and the DRM isn't as vital for console.

It's exacly the opposite. The last we need is the development of next patches shared with the console team. The dodge button in the next patch would reveal the sad truth: The PC version would not being fixed with the PC gamers in mind.

I'm perfectly comfortable with two different products, SO IF all we are goint to get in the next patches is what is incoporated now to consoles I will feel cheated.

The dodge buttons are not needed in PC, IMHO.

The problems that we need to have fixed have nothing to do with camera angles and so...

In an interview from yesterday it was confirmed that the console version will have all patches released for PC thus far and will include the majority of the changes from future patches but eventually the two will slowly separate from each other because the different platforms have different play styles.
