Hardcore and Inferno
We have been told Inferno will be hard, but it looks like there will be no mercy for hardcore players!

RMAH Info Coming Very Soon
There are a lot of questions still floating around about the RMAH. It looks like we should be getting some solid info 'very' soon.

Custom PvP Matches and Balance.
Bashiok took the time to give some more information on the PvP system.

We're open to the idea of custom PvP matches, which would allow for duels in the arenas. There are a lot of decisions before we can get there, but on the design philosophy front we don't have anything against practice duels or other custom matches (1v4?), as long as they can't be used for progression. It'll just come down to implementation and what we're able to pull off in a timely manner.
While we're talking about PvP it's probably worth reminding everyone that what we're targeting is a very loose and 'for fun' system. Imagine clicking a button, being matched up against another team of equal skill and gear, and win or lose you move forward (although faster if you win) on a personal progression system that gives you some cosmetic recognition as you go. There won't be ladders or leagues, we have no intent to expose team ratings, and very likely nothing besides a win/loss record to track performance etc. etc. etc. Anyone who has tried it at BlizzCon knows the PvP in Diablo III is a blast, but I've seen some people start to get ideas that it's going to be an eSport, and that's just not something we're targeting - for the sake of our goals in the single player/co-op experience.
It's one reason custom matches can make some people nervous, because it means players can start setting up their own games in attempts to create a more competitive system. Or just complaining their 1v1 duels aren't balanced. When that happens people start demanding the sacrifice of PvE, "I need more mobility/stuns/dps", separate systems with different abilities, and on and on. I think if there were one good argument against duels and custom games, it would be the players themselves.
uhh I still don't get it. If you balance PvP and PvE separately, this issue of one's balance affecting the other would never occur.
Aside from some very basic user experience issues it would cause, and which we vehemently oppose, asking us to design, balance, and maintain two separate games just isn't reasonable.
So my next question would be, why is it going to take so long to implement if it isn't supposed to be something so central to the core mechanics of the game?
How do you know how long it's going to take? Jay says it'll be this year and everyone assumes that means December?
No offense Bash, but you guys ARE Blizzard =)
You should be astounded that people actually believe that it will be "this year" when you guys said this year. hehe
Fair enough...
My concern is the strict queuing of players with similar gear and skill in arena. (Long Quote)
In a balanced system (and if we're matching you correctly) you'd win 50% of the time, and lose 50% of the time. It absolutely feels awesome to win, but for someone to win someone else has to lose. The 'fun' comes from being matched fairly and overcoming a challenge. Yes some fun can come from just being totally overpowered and dominating, but for most people that gets old and they'll just stop playing if there's no challenge.

Any reason why no Gold announcement? Is that just how it is with PC digital releases?
Do people still do gold announcements? With day-one patches it's kind of irrelevant, y'know? (Source)
No Duels Before PvP Patch
plz give us at least 1v1 option for pvp if no duels or free-for-all mode when pvp hits.
I meant no plans for duels before the PvP patch. It'll depend on if we can get custom matches implemented then. (Source)

So glad he repeated this again. They've been saying this for like... well, since they introduced the arena back in 2010. PvP is not supposed to be an eSport in Diablo 3.
The Book of Cain describe the arch as "composed of uncountable diamond facets that shimmers with brilliance indescribable in mortal words." The arch sits at the top of the Silver Spire, the tallrest tower in the Heavens. Also, the arch is believed to be the spine of the legendary Anu.
Lol Yes...
Except they really could make more money if they did make it one. Someone made a good suggestion (albeit a very old one people have been asking for even in the eSport-enabled WoW for years):
What basic user experience issues? They really must go over that in fine detail as it's fundamental for them to explain why they "vehemently oppose" such an effective solution. Do they really have so little respect for their customer's intelligence that those who are interested in becoming e-sport competitive couldn't possibly fathom different tooltips between PvE and PvP?
The last statement they made is a huge exaggeration. Unless they give us a lot more than Arenas, the scope of the PvP content is extremely small compared to their PvE game. With all the extra players who are PvP centric coming in, as well as constant community hype from streams and tournaments (something that is always less interesting in PvE), I'm not alone in saying it would be a good investment.
ou could be right that this is the Diamond Gate. If it is being blown up, from what I can tell then shit just got real. Because in the book it said 'no enemy has ever set foot past the gates into the Silver City."
I think the game is going to break records!
16 days to go!
In that particular case I can support them. From what little they've said about their intentions with the system in posts and in recent videos, it sounds like they want to build some sort of progession system (that doesn't involve PvE power/progression) rather than just simple win/loss records. Rewarding cosmetic stuff and the like. The UI and testing is probably underway already and I imagine we'll see it patched in before summer ends.
yeah
6 years trying to balance wow pvp and it isn't balanced. In fact, you could easily say that Blizzard catering to PVP'ers for balancing issues is one of the reasons that the PVE changes so much and has gotten worse and worse.
2. The trailer was awesome.
So imagine a wizard derping around in PvE, deciding he likes his character and wants to do some pvp. Would it be a fun and nonconfusing experience if he or she would realistically have to learn to play what is essentially a whole new class? Of course there will be lots of people who would easily recover from that initial blow, and take up the challenge, but that would mean that PvP becomes a thing for a relatively elite group, hard to get into for the common forrest noob.
You know.. I have been so rapped up in thinking about the Mechanics of the game since - well - since forever, but especially since August - I had almost forgotten how freaking EPIC the story of this game will be.
Ya.. didn't think it was possible, but I am even more hyped that I was.
My gosh.. Act 4 is going to be amazing!
Ohh and the explosion towards the ends - if you pause it just right - it looks like Cain and Leah getting blown back - not sure where they are though,
certainly not in the Cathedral from the Beta.Ya it is! Oops!Yeah, they're in the cathedral - that's from the opening cinematic they released a while back.
