Blizzard released today that some spells, including those we have already seen, will be going under renovation with new effects:
Official Blizzard Quote:
Some awesome new spell effects coming out of the tech art team including an updated Acid Cloud (witch doctor) and Magic Missile (wizard).
This makes one wonder what prompted such things to be changed. Could it be that Magic Missile's purple color was decidedly off-putting for a Diablo game? Could Acid Cloud's breadth have been too saturated with green ooze? Do these things call for change, or are they fine how they are?
What skills look amazing already, and which ones could use improving? Personally, I believe the Witch Doctor's Plague of Toads skill looks completely awesome- who doesn't love biohazardous amphibians bouncing about the screen (see The Witch Doctor's Plague of Toads lame? Hardly.)? In addition, so far I'm loving the Wizard's Slow Time spell, with its big, flashy bubble.
Do you have any suggestions for better skill effects? Are any of them too flashy or boring? Do any of them seem to out-pace the "Diablo feel", as many fans call it? Could it be in response to some of the more flamboyant skills that Blizzard could be tuning them down, or is this only a tune-up?
Plague of toads I like too.
Also Firebats.
That's the exact reason why I'm gonna chose a juggernaut barb
Ohhh why do you dislike lightning ??? It's look very great and realistic, not like d2...
lol I know it's not like real behavior of lightning, the only thing is the lightning doesn't travel in a perfect line.
If we want a real behavior of lightning.
First wizard will take damage.
Second flying monster must be immune to lightning (don't touch the ground)
And the lightning are supposed to be fast and after disapear after 0,01 sec.(no one will see the spell with the refresh rate of our screen) lol
Ark, I dislike the lightning of your picture (Dragon age) !! (almost white) and plus I think I see a kind of summon pop out of lightning (too much effect, too much branch, too much exageration)
Right !! and I don't find what lightning have wrong. I find it perfer for d3.
lol, we can start about physics !!
The electricity just find the shorter way to reach the ground, air is less conductible than blood of wizard !!!
What defines an effect as too flashy is yet to be determined. However the iterative process through which blizz puts each aspect of the game-making process will hopefully enable them to determine when the effect gets actually more boring with time.
Remember...those skills are gonna be used hours on end...and not only during a 2 minutes youtube vid.
So the feeling behind the effects must last.
Barb skills on the other hand are quite impressive, exept for that whirlwind.
I never really liked it, looks like a 300 pound ballet dancer....
I agree, but I'm going to overlook disintegrate beam. Not sure why a lot of people seem to like whirlwind.
i think quick, simplistic, and mild gratification is what they need to shoot for. something that feels like a normal attack with a little flavor. (zeal, tiger strike, jab, poisin jav, fire arrow)
as for the d2 flasshy things, it came from sorc/sin traps/ and necro. these, well im too tired to think how they fit in, but ya
i like the flash they have now, but will it last?i mean, bliz sets the standard. usualy a game will go out to only beat 1 standard bliz sets. i bet one game will go out to just beat the animations. the true bliz standard that cant be broken is the legitness of the game.
Remember this game is made to be played on multiplay, and party will take around 4 members. If every effect is too flashy the game will become too chaotic.
Particulary i think magic missile and arcane enchant weapons should not be so purple. It should be some kind of very palid purple. I allways thought those "pure" magical energies should look colorless because of it's neutrality.
Another effect i dislike is the barbarian Ground Stomp. If you play attention, when he use it alot of white cracks appears on the ground. Those white cracks looks lame and magical (wich is terrible since the barbarian should be 100% magicless).
And I don't like corpse spiders. The spiders are so big and fat wtf. They should be thounsant of small ones, like carrion swarm. It's alot more creepy.
But i really love all other effects. Specially the fire spells, time bubble and the barbarian physical attacks (they really made some boring attack, like cleave, look great without adding to much flash).
