Torchlight Ups the Ante
Has the recent product of ex- Blizzard North and Flagship Studios employees led to a period of constructive silence for the Diablo III team? Torchlight, in many respects a child of the Diablo series as any official game, has been garnering the fanhood of many of our own members, perhaps due to its vast similarities in style, gameplay, and mechanics to older Diablo games and even Diablo III, itself. A recent article at MMO News asks all this and more.
For a good number of weeks now the DiabloFans staff has been struggling to find solid, unique, and valuable news. It's proved a distinctly challenging task, however, as very little has been released, as opposed to the massive flood of information we have been getting for months. Could this be the Diablo team treading lightly, so as to avoid announcing anything fragile? MMO News says that because of this observation, common among all Diablo news sites, that "Blizzard has made up its mind to reform the game system thoroughly".
Or could this simply be the usual calm before the storm? A similar slow came after StarCraft II's unveiling at the World Wide Invitational, which was followed by a good amount of updates straight from Blizzard and then reached a veritable freeze. Is it too soon to make the call?
Thank you. I'm glad somebody understands how I feel.
Hes not the only one I feel the same way
Now when I say the items are lame I mean, diablo 2 and 1 had unique items, runewords and awesome sets to collect in the game and mfing your face off for them was always fun for some odd reason. Since then I have yet to see a game with a more indept item system. All the games now including TL seem to all fall short cause of there poorly created item systems. TL especially with it's lame randomized item stats and being able to add as many enchants as you want to any item. I mean common it kind of ruins the game when you can get and old level 1 weapon and just put tons of enchants on it, instead of having to work for those awesome "uniques, runewords and set items". Ya you might say "but TL has sets and unique items to!!" but do they even do anything besides giving you a extra stat on the item or stats that aren't on any weapon? No they don't... They just look unique at best and have no real uniqueness in stats or anything else and that's why TL will never come close to diablo.
I dare you to play TL on Very Hard past the first 4 mine levels. >>
No, TL is not really Diablo, you got that right. Thank god.
I'm agree on all what you aid except that :
Having to WORK for those awesome "uniques, runewords and set items" I find that boring to have to work for get a good items ! HEY Yo it's a game I don't want to work !! it's so hard to find, it's only a part of game for hardcore no life players.
I find the idea to put unlimited enchants on items very great !! It's force you to take choice, Do I wait for better item or I spend my enchant on my current weapon ?
If we compare diablo series with others similar games, I dislike TL, I extremly prefer Titan quest. It's inovate all from d2, it's bring many good feature that d2 doesn't have. And skills system are extremly great and well balanced. Each class has aura and attack, you can do a caster or a fighter with each class, you can mix both if you want.
Ps. Yes TQ was a awesome game and I would play that over TL any day.
I know they have plans to make it mmo and I'll probably give it another shot when that happens but I think your right about the increase in costs of enchants.
I would also just like to say that I didn't come on here to start trouble it was simply to state my opinion on the game when you guys were comparing it to diablo. Sorry if it upset you.
I will take the advice of you guys though and give it another shot on very hard.
Yeah, I'm waiting for the hardcopy as well. I assume there will be a much better selection of mods to toy with by then anyway. I actually may end up waiting for quite awhile since I'll probably be getting Titan Quest by then. That should satisfy my thirst for Diablo-like ARPG play for awhile. I guess I'll get Torchlight when I'm tired of TQ.
