Blizzard Coming To Twitter!

We just received word from Bashiok that Blizzard is going to be officially launching some new Twitter feeds for their three primary game properties, Diablo, Starcraft and Warcraft. Here's what he had to say:

"In the next few days we will be officially launching the @Warcraft http://twitter.com/@warcraft;, @StarCraft http://twitter.com/@starcraft;, and @Diablo http://twitter.com/@diablo; Twitter feeds where we plan to share news, run contests and events, and much more. We'll be starting things off with a bang by holding contests leading up to and through BlizzCon as well as will be twittering all through the show.

We're looking forward to the opportunities that will come with these new Twitter accounts and the increased interaction between Blizzard Entertainment and the community."

So for all you tweetoholics out there, now you have even more feeds to watch, especially since they'll be launching some contests. Keep an eye out for 'em!

Also, if this discussion thread doesn't generate at least one image and/or animation of Diablo killing the Twitter bird, we have failed as a fan community. Make it happen people. Make it happen.

Well it can't be all THAT bad when it comes to a game company joining twitter. I see it as another way of getting up to the minute updates on things. Though I do think twitter is just a big joke. TWITTER TRACKER TWITTER TRAKER TWITTER TRACKER TWITTER TRACKER!! (conan)

It's not that I like twitter or don't like it. I find the idea of it stupid though. What kinda self centered jack ass actually thinks they're important enough to be writing about what they're doing or thinking every 5 minutes and really believes other people actually give a crap? I think something like Blizzard updating the status of all their games, say putting up all the major announcements that come up during blizzcon, is actually worthwhile usage of something like twitter.

Beats someone talking about how, "omg today I had a sausage egg mcmuffin at mcdonalds for breakfast! Now I am off to work. I'll update more when I get there!" omg I can't wait to hear more! lol

Twitter is a pretty awesome resource for companies. It is as near to zero cost advertising as you can get. For blizzard it is maybe a bit redundant because they already announce almost everything major through their main sites and it is mirrored out to all the popular fansites within a day or two, but at the same time it has the ability to let fans in on the game dev cycle a bit more.

Also, it is advantageous to have one, simply for the free search engine plug. The natural high link count on twitter leads it to rank highly on search engines that put heavy emphasis on that (Like Google).

I'll follow the page for a while, probably until they start talking about off-topic crap that I don't care about
