Quote fromSynergies aren't being planned for nor are they expected.
It's sort of a funny question, because broken down you're essentially asking "Are the skill trees in Diablo III going to be boring and require incentive to spend points in skills no one wants?"
Ideally the answer to that is no. Smiley
There are some other things going on too that make sure synergies even less of a necessity. Clear separation of active and passive skills, respecs, ... and MORE!
I personally felt that synergies fixed more than they broke but, as we all know, Diablo II has had a long history of bad balancing and cookie-cutter builds. Perhaps in light of how Diablo fans reacted to synergies in Diablo II, the Diablo III team is deciding against such an implementation.
This quote actually also led to some speculation by one of our own members here (http://www.diablofans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18838), DarkMagicc, about the viability of respeccing, if anyone wants to go and check that out.
I'd say we're actually getting a decent flow of updates if you know what to look for. Comments? Ideas? Trolling that I can delete to raise my moderation score?
I said, using synergies, d2 is like that.. (implied, obviously since d2 already uses it)
Let me rephrase..
With synergies, you pretty much specify, more and more which skills you will primarily use. Without synergies there are less restrictions..
ANYWAY, the current skill system is having a whole skill tree, combinging all 3 tabs.
related the d3 system to d2, you would see all of the sorceress's skills in one window, with no tabs.
There are x amount of tiers, but the 1st tier from ice, lightning, and fire skill tabs will be shown in one single row. If you put 5 skills into the first (or any other tier) than you unlock the second tier.
There won't be synergies. I like this idea better (mentioned on the blue tracker).
Basically you put 5 points in a tier to unlock the next tier. This creates diversity, and in Bashiok's words; you won't be saying I'm a lightning sorc (because you use a majority lightning spells, in the lightning tab)
I love how Blizzard tweaks theyre gameplay, it always makes me say "aaaah!".
i think it would give "cohesion" to the skill lines.. for instance if my berserker skills were stronger the more berserker skills i had, it would give me incentive to get more berserker skills.
just calling them berserker has no meaning anymore.
edit: someone brought up in another thread that we may still have plus to all skills in a tab attribute on gear (like "+ to all beserker skills")
that alone could be incentive to spend more into beserker skills depending on how gear is at end game.
Close but no, AOE = Area of Effect.
For example the frost nova or electric nova sorceress's use is a AOE spell (can hit a unlimited number of creatures in a certain area).
The spread rune just gives you two more possible hits.
True, didnt think of it like that. I hope they don't add synergies just to differentiate the classes though. They said they didn't want to have synergies just because of all the spells you don't really want to put points into just to reach your highend spell and I have to agree with them on that.
Im all for making wonky classes that don't make you have to build a homogoneous class that everyone else is building.
