I wanted to take a moment to let the community know that I?ve switched roles here at Blizzard to work on our upcoming, unannounced MMO. World of Warcraft has been such a central part of my life these past six and a half years, and it?s success would not have been possible without the tremendous community around it, so I wanted to say thank you to all our players who?ve shared this amazing experience with us so far. Also, while I have served as the spokesperson and Game Director for World of Warcraft on Wrath of the Lich King, by no means would WoW be where it is today without the dedicated team that we have in place. The WoW development team is comprised of some of the most talented and experienced game developers in the world, and it was an absolute honor to serve amongst them, and they will continue to make WoW better than ever. I still plan to be very involved with the future course of World of Warcraft, but will leave the day to day operations of World of Warcraft to my partners in crime, Tom Chilton and J. Allen Brack.
When all is said and done, WoW is still my favorite game. I play it every day. None of that passion is gone. If anything, it fuels the challenge of making our next MMO even better. We know we have some big shoes to fill. So thank you to everyone who has been so supportive over the years, and likewise, thanks to those who have given us pointed feedback on all areas of the game. Without all of the feedback and participation, WoW would not be the game that it has grown to be. Azeroth truly belongs to you and we?re lucky to have shared in your journey. And as always, I?ll still be lurking on the forums and in the game.
Mostly, I just wanted to say thanks. It has been an absolute honor.

So is anybody else wondering if Blizzard's next MMO will be based on the Diablo series?
they've been doing those games for like, 20 years.
my guess is a new game based outside of those 3.
There are a lot of mmofps popping out and they pretty much all call themselves "next-gen".
I think it won't be Warcraft, Starcraft OR Diablo based. It will be ALL THREE at once.
"World of Blizzard" will be what its called.
Sorceresses fighting Orcs that throw Hydralisks.
You could even play as a scourge. You just wouldn't last... that long... before dying.... especially if you plan on attacking.
Im thinking the same thing...a sci fi mmo done right would be amazing...but DAMM I want it to be diablo mmo...
Diablo 3
Starcraft 2
WoW
You might not like all of those but i guarantee that chances are you like one. So Blizzard basically has their basis covered by having something for everyone. Now what does Blizzard not have??? A simple FPS comes to mind but its unlikely they want to step into that territory and honestly i don't think they could succeed in that territory. Now here is an idea that i think is most likely. An MMORPG based on being a futuristic FPS. Something along the lines of Starwars/StarCraft but more Shooter based. If they can do it right and do it BIG an MMORPG were you need good FPS skill would be a huge thing for Blizzard. If they do this right i think they could get alot of NEW people to play their games and i think alot of people would be willing to pay for multiple of their games monthly aslong as they manage to do it right. With blizzard i have no doubt they would make the game fun.
And you can count Diablo out of the mix because they aren't going to release a mature rated MMO. The backlash from Diablo fans would be immense if it wasn't filled with gore. If you don't believe me then just remember the shit they took for adding some color to the game. It isn't going to happen. Not now. Not ever.
I hope... I so fucking hope that it's something new. Gamers make me so so mad with their inability to accept a new game. They all want the 9th installment to this or that.
Whatever it is they're cooking up... it better be able to withstand the massive amount of Star Wars fans itching to play Bioware's MMO. They might have some serious competition when that comes out.
I think they were saying way back it will be a new franchise. I'm not sure if I believe that. I dunno if Blizzard is capable of a new franchise.
And how do you imagine a StarCraft MMO, really?
There not all fail wow is actually a really good game.
But I believe you are correct in that they did say it was not gonna be a mmo based on one of there existing franchises.
WAR was probably the most edible MMO of them all. Mainly because of scenarios and the open PvP and the other junk they put in there. You're sort of avoiding the point. Making it StarCrafty is the hard part. Who are you going to play as? How? Etc. MCC sounded really interesting, but Blizzard would never take such a risk.
Yeah I don't play StarCraft much. You can tell from my vague descriptions.
Just because you do not enjoy it does not make it a failure....blizzard is making more money off of wow then any other game they have released...far far FAR from a failure....if you didnt enjoy it well thats fine....there are aspects I sure dont like about it to but with 11 mil players its hard to say its a failure....gotta be something great about it
If anything its stuff like this about all mmo's that there gonna try and change to get more people playing this new mmo of theres. Everyone who says wow sucks basically all say its the same shit over and over with non stop killing X of a monster for a quest over and over....changing this would possibly get a lot more ppl to play a mmo
