Character Stat Assigning
I was able to be one of the first to tryout the new playable demo Diablo III. I was able to get a lot of information so far in regards of skills, gameplay, graphics, dialog, NPC's, and more...
One of the more interesting things about the game play is the Character Stat Assigning. I was able to level up the Wizard and the Witchdocter to a few levels and noticed something strange.
I was able to talk to the lead director of the demo area and was no at liberty to say but was able to tell me that Character Stat assigning will be totally automatic. You will not have any control of which stats get increased. This greatly reduces stragety and builds for the near future when Diablo III gets announced.

Or we could be forgetting about the one guy that gave his barb so much mana that it made 90% of all sorcs cry! ZOMGWTFLUX! I <3 CUSTOMIZATIONS!
Stop bastardizing the classes and let them be- this is the new Diablo. You want casters with the health and strength of a melee character....go play the friggin Sims- that's got loads of customization!
Nonsense, manual stat enables pally to play differently, without it there would be no hammerdin, smiter etc, and hammerdin have to adjust their stat for different purpose, not every hammerdin does baal run all day. As for the items, I agree runewords ruin the game, but everyone has the same item is not caused by having the same stat, its because they made runeword ridiculous overpower compare to unique.
You missed the point completely, the only you reason you could devote all your stats into one section was because you knew you would get items that would make it unessacary to up those stats.
and obviously every build devotes all points into vita......
IMO just buff str and dex will solve alot of problem and still maintain the diversity, but blizzard is removing it.
More like runewords should never existed in the first place.
You boost str and dex and instead of having all classes with insane amounts of HP you get classes with insane amounts of damage one shotting monsters and players a like with just enough HP to escape.
It's known as glass cannon builds, and they are abused when at all possible.
Now to your pathetic arguements against my statements.
Ok
"You havent read about the lack of life/mana leech (which almost killed PvM in Diablo 2) and pots (which made things too easy in Diablo 1 and 2)." - Alright PvM in Diablo 2 was dead within months buddy. And the pot thing ok thats fine but there are still gonna be orbs of health laying around everywhere. And harder monsters is great except this HUGE error in my favor moron and that is: BLIZZARD SAID THEY WANT YOUR CHARACTERS TO BE EPICLY STRONG AND POWERFUL!!!!!! How the hell can monsters pose a threat and still be a Diablo game if you weren't a god pretty much? How can it be Diablo if you couldn't kill numerous monsters at once with ease? Answer: It can't!!!!! Thus...it's impossible to be epicly strong and powerful and have the monsters kick the crap out of you dur?
Next friend:
"Also, the lack of stat assigning wont ruin the customization as half of the ignorant people whine about, its going to help improve the itemization. Every class will pick items that boost their stats instead of the useless "use dex for max block, str for stormshield (or whatever) and then all out vit". And everyone going after the same items.
No, this time each spec, each player will decide how to be dressed and that will affect how his playstyle will be."
It is going to help itemization...help it in a way to where everyone is gonna strive for the same items so EVERY character class is the SAME in the END! Wow you are a complete moron buddy how the hell would items not allow and have people become the same exact things? The manual stat points helped eliminate this problem in Diablo 2 you clearly never played Diablo 1. What was Diablo 1 you may ask since you are so ignroant, ill tell you! Hmm maxed stats and same items, much like you will get in the Diablo 3 you describe...what did that lead to? Every character was the same damn thing. You never cease to amaze me with how dumb you appear to be.
Oh and my favorite:
"Its simple as that. Removing weaknesses and improving what they have (see rune system). Thats the way to treat a franchise with respect."
Treating a franchise with respect? They gutted out potions. They are gutting TP. They are gutting PK and PvP. They are gutting manual stats. They gutted the art design.
Tell me buddy...what didn't they gut? Look at SC2...what did they gut? They brought back everything, even made IMPROVMENTS without GUTTING the game. What did Diablo do? They gutted what made Diablo Diablo beside being overly powerful and killing monsters with ease. So now before you even dare to respond back to this, play Diablo 1, Play Diablo 2..and when you can kill monsters without getting destroyed like a 4 year old let me know all about how you feel ok?
Haha...yea removing manual stats makes this game SO much less cookie cutterable. Delete your account on all Blizzard games asap whoever believes this.
I've warmed up to the art direction for the game
I've gone from against your stupid health orbs to be indifferent to them
I've praised you for for the conceptual art, the death animations, the named monsters, the destructable backgrounds, the regular monsters, as well as other areas of the new game
I was gladdened to hear you were looking into improving the inventory system including the stash
I was instantly against the idea of checkpoints and the exclusion of the classic Town Portal
I was initially skeptical about the sudden overblown aspect of skills and their seeming necessity to be absolutely overpowered in order to hold our attention
and now I have you guys go and COMPLETELY turn D3 from a PC title that would help reinvent PC Platform gaming into a piece of shit console port by eliminating the last dregs of RPG element: the stat line. Strength, Dex, Vitality, Energy being completely controllable by the user is an absolute must in a true RPG. This isn't a freaking MMO where everything has to be balanced to a T (which Blizzard failed and continues to fail to do in WoW). If anything, all this does is completely eliminate what made Diablo so good: being able to go and create your own unique build on character classes.
Now every character is going to be the same with a bunch of bullshit overpowered spells because you seem to think we're a bunch of ADD ridden kids who can't be pleased unless we are on the very edge of having a built in God Mode. Why don't you just eliminate dieing as well? That way I can just plow though the game using flashing ADD button mash spells in just a couple of hours
I said months ago: to get Diablo 3 right, they need to make the Stats worth something so then people can do more than put max stats to Vit like in Diablo 2 and make it more like Diablo 1 where stats actually meant something. What I meant by this was PUT SOME FUCKING EFFORT INTO THE GODDAMNED GAME MECHANICS AND NOT COP OUT AND MAKE EVERYTHING AUTOMATIC!!!!! ACTUALLY FIX THE GODDAMN PROBLEM INSTEAD OF PUT A PATCH OVER IT!!!
I thought I would have purchased Diablo 3 no matter what Blizzard managed to do to screw it up but I didn't anticipate that Blizzard would be so fucking mindless as to automate the majority of the game including the character building aspect just to appease the people who can't sit down and take the time to plan out their own stat points. Whoopteedo, I get to choose between putting a point between Spell A and Spell B both of which are equally powerful and do relitively the same thing.
Oh I'm sure the Demo was fun enough to play for a while until a Blizzard rep jabbed you in the kidneys and said, "Back of the line buddy." However from what I've read so far of Diablo 3, it's going the opposite direction of what I want it to be. Yes, I'll be so arrogant as to say I want it a certain way. *Humph* I guess I was right years ago before I ever had a clue D3 was even being made when I said the only way a new Diablo is going to be made is if I do it myself. Well, with the way this game is progressing, it's going to be Diablo 3 in name only.
Unless something happens to change my mind, I'm probably not going to buy this game. As a note, I would have previously bought this game no matter what state of suckage it was in...until I realized there is a certain level of suckage that even I cannot ignore no matter how much I want a Diablo 3
Diablo 1: absolute perfect classic
Diablo 2: a decent game that pails in comparison to the original
Diablo 3: off to a horrendious start...
*Yawn.....*
This way you have a fixed health for hell and all that crap- so basically it boils down to worrying about your fight strategy + skill/talent choice to combat through higher difficulty levels!
Effectively choosing stats gave you too much control over your character, while now- taking away that control and putting more focus on skills, gameplay tactics and talents, you have more interesting control aspects on your plate!
Food for thought!
WOW is so watered down, and "kid" friendly a monkey (even without opposable thumbs) could play it and pwn an average player.
One of the major aspects of a "role" playing game, is that you have control over what your character does. With this iteration you don't really have much choice.
I really hate when customization in any capacity for anything, is sacrificed for a certain group of people.
I was really excited when I learned that D3 was finally going to be release, however after seeing all the WOW carryovers, I'm wondering if I will spend my money on this game.
Sad...
they are using ideas that work, because....they work. Not only that, but they have rhard evidence and player feedback from WoW that it works.
You have to realize that the idea of different character builds is sort of an illusion. In D2 you COULD make a sorc and give her nothing but strength. But is that a good idea? no. Will anyone do it just because they can? No, not unless they are bored or enjoy roleplaying a suicidal hero. Same thing with cloth and mail armor. You COULD make a barb and only wear cloth. But is that a good idea in any way? No. Just because you Can do something in a game, doesn't make it a legitimate choice.
This system eliminates any silly character builds. And the "alternative" builds from D2 (like Hammerdins and and any other class trying to be another class) will probably be implimented through a different system, like through talents.
As for WoW being "kid friendly"...have you ever played WoW? I could beat D2 on all it's difficulty levels with every class in the time it takes to reach 70 in WoW, not to mention, WoW (if you're playing right) requires WAY more thought into your character build, because it's all about the talents you chose, what combination of them you use, when and how you use them...instead of just choosing one skill and useing it 100% of the time brainlessly like in D2.
To sum it up, choice of build in D2 is an illusion and depends on the skills/talents you chose far more than the stats you chose, so they are making a great choice.
It is just that an opinion, based upon a style of play that you like and thats fine. I prefer a different way, even if I do make a mistake, I want the choice to make it. Thats part of the fun in my perspective.
Additionally, not everyone wants to create an uber-pvp character. Some of us just like playing through the story, and perhaps some co-op with friends.
Positively speaking, I do really like the idea of adding runes to skills, and the respecing feature. But, but, how many runes will there be (i.e., how many possible combinations), and...
If they plan on using a respec system, why have the stat assigning? Because all of us retards can't make a mistake right, because all of those "stupid" builds are eliminated.
We will all see in the end with D3, however I think these changes are going down the wrong path.
we want real Diablo III
Thats it.
Now you disagree with it or you agree. Either way, live with it or pass your turn and don't buy it.
If you think that knowing exactly how many strength you need for equip X makes you pro, you are a retard. Being able to kill enemies and use your skills effectively, being able to survive, make you pro.
