The main reason for the corpses not being able to stay permanently is the potential number of them on screen at one time, and specifically that each corpse is affected by physics, allowing them to be blasted and thrown all over the place by the force of player abilities.
It's one of the trade offs when integrating new technology, you can get really awesome effects, but they do have a cost. In a 2D world, a sprite of a dead creature doesn't really cost any more (system requirement-wise) than a sprite of something that's alive. Probably less. In a 3D world where a creature dies and then needs to have physics calculations thrown onto it so it can bounce and fall and fly around, they cost substantially more.
We remember fondly those situations where you've just completely obliterated a camp of Fallen, and as you're picking up items - marvel in your destruction. That's a feeling and part of the gameplay where if we can realistically keep some of it without sacrificing features or having insane system requirements we'd definitely like to, but no promises.
When questioned as to how skills like Find Item, Corpse Explosion and Summon Skeleton would work in D3, if they were indeed included, he responded:
We haven't announced any abilities outside of those listed on the website, so by discussing what is or isn't in the game I would be essentially making an announcement, which I'm not prepared to do.
Thanks for the tip, Dead9k!
Hey look! Foot in mouth. While it may be a city in greece it is also a country right next to albania and bulgaria.:D
Maybe you should trust the guy who lives there.
Very wrong.
Blizzard said that still the Worlstone is destroyed, Demons and Angels are now MORTALS, so they don't back in Hell nor Heaven when dying.
That's why (if we spot on the background/storyline) corpses should stay !
(I'll look after the source if you want)

This info is about 2003, surely wrong nowadays but it has made to much sense for me that i assimilate it as right. Sorry !
Anyway, about the vanishing corpses, just stop the physic will be enough for me as i want to have this feeling of slaughter after having bad time with hords of monsters !
Even flat pixelised bloody corpses will be enough...
And lowering the details/removing the physics from them wouldnt feel right.
The only good suggestion i read in here was to add despawn animations that wont eat too much power and will make it look at lealst decent.
Offtopic: about "Macedonia" its official name thats also used in every major alliance such as the EU. The fact they're trying to "change" history and take parts of another nations history for themselves (along with the name) is the main reason they arent accepted in any of the major alliances. My country has a part in it and i'm proud. My nations history expands over millenia. If another countrys doesnt, they could start fresh and create it, not steal another one because they live nearby.
even though Wikipedia is open source and anyone could insert stuff in there, its also mentioned that the only name accepted internationally so far is Former Yugoslavian Republic Of Macedonia (aka F.Y.R.O.M). While it also mentions how it only has around 40% of the geographical region called Macedonia (that part is greek).
anyway, back on topic, i dont think its of that big importance how long the corpses stay before they dissapear/decompose/burn to ashes or whatever. Whats important is the feeling you get till you kill them and for the next few seconds. Because thats about how much time we'll spend with them.
Wow! Such hate! You are right my European History education is focused more on the Baltic area rather than the Balkans. But honestly there is no need to get rude about it. Here I was assuming that because the U.N. and the EU considered the name FYROMacedonia legitimate that they would be considered people other than the US that recognize it as such. I guess I was wrong!
Haeon: Thanks for looking that up! Even though it is old it doesn't mean it doesn't fit. Thank you.
Edit: It seems that the governing body there like to refer to themselves as the Republic of Macedonia perhaps we should refer to them as they wish to be called.

cause im kicking his corpse around with the WD
Owntttt.
this guy has a point.
Just because wont we returning, doesnt mean that corpse explosion will not be returning aswell. Hey, they may have a new attack, "Corpseless Explosion!" basically telekenesis.
Lulll
there is a right of a country to defend its history and thats stronger than the "right" to chose a name to steal ones history. Macedonia is the name of a region, not a simple country. Accepting that will open up possibilities for territorial claims which we (speaking as a greek) wont accept.
Simple as that.
Say some country in the South America claims the name of "America" and starts claiming to have the history of the whole continent. Its extreme, but with the smaller region of Macedonia (of which around 60% is greek and is populated by greeks) is easier to try.
Also the try to claim the history of the ancient Macedonian Empire for themselves is as pathetic as not knowing their own history.
end of the off-topic discussion.
If you want to discuss it any further open a thread in the off-topic/spam section and lets talk about it there.
on topic i completely agree with liquid on his point. You cant have an option when you have skills that can use corpses for anything. Its either something you have, or you dont.
Yeah! Hope is renewed! Although causing monster minds to spontaneously explode through sheer thought does sound like a fun skill. Might have problems with skeletons though^_^
The carnage still exists while fighting and in the next few seconds where you can literally do everything with the corpses, but then they go. And we should go too to kill some more monsters!
apparently you dont know much about the history of the region.
actually it was divided by the United Yugoslavia after the Civil War. Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia (or commonly Yugoslavia now) and Skopje (also known as F.Y.R.O.M that want to be named Macedonia). Not sure if i miss any other country founded after the Civil War but that seems about right.
And it wasnt "forcibly divided". They demanded independence from Yugoslavia (even if they're almost the same nation - slavic people that moved to the region pretty late in history) and tried to take the name of the (mostly greek) region of Macedonia to have a grip for territorial claims.
History says that they had called themselves "Vardarska" before Tito (general of the United Yugoslavia) changed the name of the region to "Macedonia" to be able to make territorial claims. That happened a good 50-60 years ago i think.
