In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Blizzard's president of game design Rob Pardo gave console owners a tiny sliver of hope that Diablo III could find its way onto their systems:
Now before you console owners get all excited, keep in mind that Blizzard has stated that they have no plans for console development and that Diablo III would be a PC and Mac exclusive. Still, it'd be interesting to see how Diablo would work on a console."I think it's theoretically possible. It would have some control changes that I think you'd have to make... But it's probably, of our major franchises, the one that's most console friendly, for sure. You'd need to think about a lot of the point-and-click spells, like point to area-of-effect, or things like line-damage in this direction. Target selection is something you're going to lose on console, you're really going to be able to do targeting direction, but not specific targeting. Out of StarCraft, Warcraft or WOW, Diablo would be the easiest game to translate. But it would still take a bit of work."
I'm sure some of you remember trying Diablo on the original Playstation system. It didn't look or play nearly as well as the PC version, but consoles have come a long way since then. So what do you think? Would you like to see Diablo III released on consoles as well or should it remain a PC/Mac exclusive?
And PS3 isn't pay to play- it's free.
Don't bank on it. Like I said, Blizzard has already stated that this will be a PC/Mac exclusive.
Yeah, my thoughts, too, since Blizzard has always been a major PC gaming company, and not a console one. But still, I would like to not have to buy a new PC.
Consoles are basically computer at this point anyways, why not bring the games over? Imagine playing it on a GIGANTIC HD tv in your living room. I'd love it.
but yeah id like to see them keep it PC only!
Ha ha, my 37" LCD came WITH a VGA port in back so I AM playing Diablo 1/2 in my living room! I also have a Microsoft wireless desktop that I sit on a wooden panel across my lap so I play from the comfort of my reclining sofa. I love it. I'll never go back to sitting at a desk in front of a monitor. Throw in a full sized Dolby 5.1 setup (not some lame htib) and it's Diablo like you've never seen/heard it. Diablo 1 on the playstation wasn't bad at all, I thought it worked well when I played it. But the new game obviously needs many more hotkeys for skills but I'm sure it can be done, and I wouldn't mind it, tho it'll be the pc version for me.
Just speculation, but think about it.
ESPECIALLY if they decided to let console players interact with computer players via battle.net.
The point I'm trying to make, a console is more expensive to run Diablo III not only for Blizzard, but for the consumer as well. Expect the game to cost 10-20% more on a console and why should you even bother when $300 or less can get you a comp that can run the game just fine. Now, I'm not saying GO BUY A $300 COMP, I'm saying the comp you have now will be able to run this game just fine, heck you can buy a TOP-OF-THE-LINE video card now for around $145, even used an 8800 GTX goes for around $100.
Sorry for the wall of text.
