Mike Morhaime showed a cinematic of Diablo 3, now we are getting a gameplay video.
The Barbarian in this video fights over 20 mobs and he dispatches them easily. You can destroy and interact with the environment -- this is physics at work here. You can access the character window similar to World of Warcraft. Weapons can be enchanted. The barbarian is now doing whirlwind to deal with powerful enemies. Some lootable chests have traps ... the example given -- the chest activated a trap where many skeletal casters spawned to attack the barbarian. Deckard cain is talking in-game now in a interesting interface for RPG.
We see now a Witch Doctor class that can summon Mongrels as pets. He can create a wall of zombies to block incoming attacks of mobs from reaching you while you annihilate them. The Witch Doctor is a ranger basicaly casting from afar. The gameplay is about to end but before they want to show us what a real fight is in multiplayer with a witch doctor, a barbarian and a rogue. Holy cow this huge beast with four legs and a huge body that takes haf the screen is fighting the three classes. The beast is named Siegebreaker assault beast. It has a lot of HP but the 3 classes are doing heavy damage to it. It dropped an amulet and gold. The creature just exploded after looting and hundreds of skeletons now fighthing onscreen. Diablo 3 logo seals the gameplay video.

PARIS, France – June 28, 2008 – Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today revealed Diablo® III, the newest entry in its critically acclaimed action role-playing-game franchise. The announcement was made during the 2008 Blizzard Entertainment® Worldwide Invitational at the Porte de Versailles Convention Centre in Paris, France. A cinematic trailer and an extended gameplay demonstration with commentary from the development team introduced the game to the thousands of players in attendance.
“We’ve wanted to expand on the epic story and gameplay elements of the Diablo universe for some time now,” stated Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We know that players have also been long awaiting a return to the series, so we’re very excited to be sharing this announcement with Blizzard gamers here in Paris and around the world today.”
Diablo III will pick up the story twenty years after the events of Diablo II. Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal have been defeated, but the Worldstone, which once shielded the inhabitants of the world of Sanctuary from the forces of both Heaven and Hell, has been destroyed, and evil once again stirs in Tristram. Playing as a hero from one of five distinct character classes, players will acquire powerful items, spells, and abilities as they explore new and familiar areas of Sanctuary and battle hordes of demons to safeguard the world from the horrors that have arisen. The first two characters classes -- the barbarian and the witch doctor -- were shown as part of the announcement at the event today in Paris.
Diablo III will feature a custom 3D-graphics engine to render lush indoor and outdoor areas of Sanctuary with a high level of detail and vivid special effects. The game’s physics-enhanced environments will be interactive and destructible, offering traps and obstacles that create added danger for players and monsters alike. These elements, along with a new quest system and random scripted events, will be integrated into the game’s random-level generator, giving Diablo III the ultimate combination of dynamic gameplay and replayability. Cooperative and competitive play will be available online through an upgraded version of Blizzard Entertainment’s renowned online gaming service, Battle.net®.
Blizzard Entertainment is developing Diablo III for simultaneous release on the Windows® and Macintosh® PC platforms. Further information about the game, including details on the other character classes, major new features for the single-player and multiplayer components, system requirements, pricing, and availability, will be announced as development progresses. Q: Uh, one thing i really loved in d2 was the hardcore mode, do you plan to include this in D3?
A: We haven't decided, I don't see why we wouldn't. It's not something we have to decide until the end but lots of ppl loved HC so we probably will.
Q: In D2, one of the problems was when u kill a boss, the player with fastest connection would take it all.
A: We spent a lot of time thinking about what we wanted to do. In D3, the drop will fall numerous times for each individual player.
Q: Will we be able to reset the skill tree?
A: Well, let's see, we're not really talking about skill systems or trees yet, but I will say it's a bad idea to not give some sort of capacity to respec your character but we haven't made any decisions at this time.
Q: Would you say that the Witch Doctor was a replacement or a spiritual successor to the Necro?
A: We don't really view the WD as a replacement. The Necro is a very cool character. If we ever decided to recreate the Necro, the WD wouldn't prohibit us from doing that.
Q: How does the gear system differ from D2?
A: We have a whole bunch of new features for items we want to do. But the core system for items is not drastically changed. Prob one of the best things about D2 is how they handled items, drops, etc, the structure was so good. We want to make it a more friendly and cooperative game but those things are not all finalized.
Q: In D2, you had overpowered ppl in D2, with cheats and duping, etc.
A: Being able to prevent cheating is one of our top priorities. We know it really hurts the community.
Q: I would like to know if you were going to keep all the secret stuff in D2. Things you have to discover by yourself when you play.
A: The super secret stuff? That's a secret.
Q: Will single and coop play be balanced. In WoW, some things can't be done alone and you need large groups.
A: I think you're talking about the rewards. Obviously the gameplay will be different in a group but... there is no item currently planned that drops for groups only. Everything you could get as a group, you can get by yourself.
Q: Since 2001 with LoD, we haven't had much news, what's been going on?
A: We've been working. Uh yeah, the development of a Blizzard product is a long affair. And what we've been working on is trying to make sure the game is worthy of being a Blizzard product and will be worthy of the fans and this is how long it's taken us to feel ready.
Q: Will male and female have different attributes or just different skins?
A: Same stats, just a visual difference. An aesthetic choice.
Q: System requirements? Dx 10 or Dx 9? Comparable to WoW?
A: We haven't settled on specs but it's always our goal to try and make our games run on as broad of a spectrum as possible. I couldn't tell you if it would run perfectly on a WoW system, but we at Blizzard don't make super high graphical games, that's just not our thing. We don't require Dx 10 at this time and I don't think we will.
Q: Do you plan on creating some map editor for D3?
A: We have not nailed any type of specifics about map editors or modders. Our games are usually not very mod-friendly because of the complex, random mechanisms. So it's not something we focus on and nothing of the sort is planned at this time.
Q: In D2, there were rune words, will you be keeping and maybe expanding this system?
A: Hmmm... no comment at this time.
"That concludes our questions to this panel, thanks to Jay and Eric... next here on main stage, live raid with.. Nehelim(i think)."
I can't believe no one asked about how many players in a game simultaneously. Or maybe it was asked earlier.
shut the fuck up you stupid clown
we are fucking DISCUSSING DIABLO3's GRAPHICS. IS THIS NOT D3 RELATED? AM I COMPLAINING? NO. AM I SATISFIED and HAPPY about today? YES.
Honestly you and anyone else who thinks like you is a retard. I guess talking about diablo 3 graphics on the diablofans.com is immoral/wrong.
get the fuck off of the internet
Nicely said.
Diablo 3 is much much darker, gory, and violent....not to mention faster, epic gameplay.
This screenshot for example, not as much zoomed in but still zoomed in a bit, has very few similarities to WoW
Please STFU and GTFO if you can honesly not come up with anything else to say about the game.
Yeah, I'm really interested in knowing how many people can play concurrently in online mode. I'm hoping that it would be at least as much as a large WoW raid but even if it's different then I'm fine with it.
I can't wait
Q:Are you going to take back the 7 diablo 3 classes add new ones and improve them? How many is Diablo 3 going to have?
A:We want to have a lot of classes but for the moment we don't know how many we are going to have. We are not curently going to take all the Diablo2 classes. We wanted to remake every one from a fresh start.
+1
Same here, I didn't complain, I just had high expectations, then all the flaming started which was quite amusing.:spam:
Tell me exactly when this thread became a fight DIII graphics vs WoW Graphics?
There will probably be 8 total by the time the expansion is released.
The demon seems like it is Diablo.
Neat, that's good too. More responsibility and power for each team member then.
we got way more than what was expect which was : Possibily an announcement via 1 advertisement.
this is obviously not a final nor is it close, as said numerous times by the discussion panel.
the visuals are a treat. amazing physics, amaazing detail, animation.
of course there are going to be Similiarties between the ARMOR and whatnot between warcraft and diablo...because hmm THERE ALWAYS was a similiarity.
now since you obviously just provoking angst on this board please give us the courtesy of leaving youself, before you are banned.
caio, new member.
+1 again
Gin and ycat, you guys seem to have the same point of view as me. But on this forum, we're head hunted.
Hopefully once the game gets closer to release the graphics will obviously appear cleaner, and that they will darken it up a bit.
I think Diablo would kick Arthas' arse.
Joke: Maybe Diablo is the head of the dreadlords in Warcraft, and the universes end up joining. Then the Protoss will come to earth and attempt to cleanse it of the scourge.
DIABLO 3 FTW!!!
LOL you're hilerious. Beacuse we're new and have a varying view point to diablo fanatics we should be banned?
No, not just the armour is the same, the textures also draw similarites. Infact the candle stick holder and candles in that one screenshot look like they've been copy pasted from WoW.
Once again, people have different opinions to you, accept it, you're not going to always be right you little Hitler.
