Update on the unannounced MMO!
Amd this is their source (lol): http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html;jsessionid=BC8F0682596A98B2FE1E8A8EA381AC0D?topicId=3168513730&sid=1&pageNo=1
IT IS OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED.
Edit: Well... calling it Diablo 3 is speculation because of the focus on the term 'unannounced title.'
For conversation's sake, what is a "Title" anyway?
But if Diablo was an MMO and Diablo was soloable then this wouldn't work as you would be sharing a persistent game world with millions of other people who could also solo Diablo and therefore killing him would not be a big deal. It makes such a difference if you are sharing a gameworld with millions of others, if a Diablo MMO were to be made then Blizzard would have to make it similar to killing Illidan in WOW ie. requring 25 of the most skilled and well geared players on a server, otherwise Diablo would be a joke. It makes such a difference if it's a shared world with thousands of others, which is why in my opinion a Diablo MMO would be something that I would never want to see, as the whole point of Diablo is that you are a hero faced with impossible odds but still manage to fuck over all of hell and it's denizens.
A starcraft MMO on the other hand would work as there has never been the concept of "one against all" in that world, and in my opinoin would make a fucking sick game.
As for the comments about being able to solo diablo, this can still be done easily, in fact blizzard did it in diablo 2 already. Basically, the difficulty of monsters in an instance can be scaled to the amount of players in the instance. So, if you want to go in there alone, you can do that and come out victorious with diablo's ear. Or, if you wish to have large-scale warfare against him, get a group of forty, and he can be scaled up to be an even beefier foe. As these are instances, it can vary from party to party. They did this in diablo 2 where monsters grew stronger as more people joined the game, I fail to see why they could not do this for instances in an mmorpg. Anyway, just my thought.
very very very good point
Blizzard can make it work though. I'm sure there is plenty of material from the books for the game to be converted into an MMO, and IF it is converted to MMO I for one have enough faith in Blizzard (the same company that brought the other games that we love to death) would do an amazing job. Whoever is skeptical about a Diablo MMO is only ignorant because of their lack of ambition and innovation which Blizzard has always shown in their games. If they announce that they are making an MMO I would be 150% sure they would make it outstanding, since they announced it's going to be a "next-gen MMO" I'm 200% sure it will be amazing.
The only neccesities for a new Diablo game is Matt Uelmen on music and Blizzard, it doesn't even matter that most of the original team from D1 and D2 aren't there because Blizzard's just that good=] they don't sell crap.
same here, I ll pay for Xbox live cus its $50 a year for a lot of games, I won't want to/be able to pay for one game 10-15 dollars a month
World of Warcraft
The burning dumbasses over at blizzard VS. The fat ass king
People have a mental block with that, I think it's the loser stigma surrounding pay to play games.
If you go to a club or a movie every weekend and spend $50.00, it's still more acceptable to society then paying $15.00 a month to play a game which is too complicated for most people.
And of course it's the teenagers which have the above image problems and are jobless.
