Blizzard Establishes "Team 3"
Gamasutra reports that Frank Pearce of Blizzard Entertainment has just confirmed that the company is working hard on another new title... and it's not World of Warcraft or Starcraft II. 40 people are working on Starcraft II and 40 people are working on this secret Team 3 project, so it's definitely another big one. According to Pearce, "Team 3 is working on something really awesome. I can’t give you any hints, but it’s totally awesome."
With Blizzcon '07 coming up this August 3-4, people have high hopes that this mystery game will be unveiled.
Hmmm, Team 3... Diablo 3... could it be? Join our discussion!

That's your opinion....
WoW is meaningless to me. Hate the game and I'll never play it.
Starcraft 2 is meaningless without a Diablo game. I only play SC when I get bored of Diablo.
Without D3 there is nothing for me to get bored of....
...and! thats Your opinion =P
if they actually just remake Diablo it'll be friggin retarded. im not spending 50 bucks on a game thats just gonna tell the same story in the exact same place.
That said, why does the MMO have to be conventional in its construction?
Technically, D1/D2/D2X are not "MMO" by today's standards, but consider how you reach your instanced game rooms - through a monotonous chat client.
Super 90's.
Take that chat window and use real avatars instead - essentially having each instance a branch of a main city - therefore, instead of each game having its own instance of Lut Gholein, have Lut Gholein be a hub where all players gather (with inns, guild housing, etc.) and each dungeon crawl be instanced. That way you eliminate silly chat windows (or at least make them a means of communication and not the entire experience), can now create an auction environment (meaning the economy is more stable and current) and have a greater chance of seeing awesome PvP instances instead of having to wander outside into the Blood Moor for duels. (kind of like WoW, but think about it - all of Diablo gameplay is an instance, why not incorporate more face-to-face MMO elements).
WoW instances involve getting booted when leaving the raid, but for Diablo, why not make it so that you can re-group upon entering an instance? This creates the possibility for different quest and competition ideas. Check this out:
Let's say you have a group of 18 ready to go, you divide into 3 teams of 6 and you embark on a race-like quest where the first group to accomplish a certain goal receives good rewards to split amongst themselves (or is auto-rewarded individually, but equally, or even based on char-level). This could be fun for intra-guild promotion or inter-guild competition (without having to resort to a permanent faction system). It's just one of any number of possiblites with this setup. Or you could even go solo - 8 man race, winner take all.
So it might not be a traditional no-borders MMO, but if they give it a more personal touch without the boring chat, it's still Diablo, but cooler. Then you can actually see when some badass (*ahem* probably me) is weilding a
super elite weapon instead of just takin his word for it. Much cooler imo.
Agreed. Blizzard wouldn't be so dumb as to JUST remake Diablo 1. What would be cool though is if D3 had a little bit of a prequel storyline leading into Diablo1 and then take it from there.
So, you play the prequel, play the revamped D1, play a revamped D2 and LoD, and then play the storyline that comes after the World Stone is destroyed. (With some type of option to skip over D1, D2, and LoD)
Yup, I didn't say it would be easy to make, just that it would be cool (imo).
If it could be done though, Blizz could do it!
Damn, soooo many possibilities... I wonder how D3 will really turn out...
We're just days away folks!
I totally overlooked the GW simliarities in my suggestion.
Ok - so let's have GW with Diablo universe. Fine with me!
Lol - you'd have to approach Deckard Cain after the conclusion of Diablo 1 and he'd ask you for the ancient words that bind spirit with time ...
and then you enter your product keys for D2 and D2X.
yup.. Little time to play + Little money to spend on the game = No D3 for me!
I wouldn't want a game where I had to pay more real money for elite items. That's just not fun - that crosses the boundary of where games and real life meet. If I'm working my real job to make real money for an in-game item, I've suddenly turned my life into a video game or at least developed an unhealthy obsession.
It's strictly a personal opinion, but I couldn't justify that type of expenditure.
i hate that cuz you cant make much money out of it if its useless to you.....
Ya, I hope that Blizzard takes a little more care of D3 than they have of D2 LoD.
There is way too much duping in D2. It creates an unbalanced economy, unfair gameplay, and offsets the equilibrium of power.

Something that is a little discouraging... Blizzcon has a panel to present the WoW film with Legendary Pictures at Blizzcon....
Idk.. but could this be the other thing they were going to announce? (or did they specifically state 2 unannounced games?)
