Blizzard Establishes "Team 3"
Gamasutra reports that Frank Pearce of Blizzard Entertainment has just confirmed that the company is working hard on another new title... and it's not World of Warcraft or Starcraft II. 40 people are working on Starcraft II and 40 people are working on this secret Team 3 project, so it's definitely another big one. According to Pearce, "Team 3 is working on something really awesome. I can’t give you any hints, but it’s totally awesome."
With Blizzcon '07 coming up this August 3-4, people have high hopes that this mystery game will be unveiled.
Hmmm, Team 3... Diablo 3... could it be? Join our discussion!
I actually find that assumption is incredibly invalid, and you should have used a brain before making that statement. As you may have realized, Starcraft 2 has been released to the publics knowledge. Starcraft (1) was released 10 years ago. ... ... ... Shortly, the world is PUMPED (myself included), even after 10 years of waiting and going through the I-hope-Blizzards-next-game-is-SC2 syndrome that is very common with Blizzard franchises. I find this would be no different with the majority of the Diablo community. However I may be completely wrong by saying this, and maybe more think like you do and will completely lose interest in a game they love(d) just because of a mere thing called 'Time.' This however surely is not the case with their most recent game announcement.
My thoughts on Team 3. I'm still wondering if now is the perfect time for Blizzard to make another massively multiplayer game, though I would love nothing more than for them to announce Diablo 3 naturally =P. So I'm skeptical if this would be the game they making with Team 3, seeing as how they have an MMO that raked them in over a billion dollars last year. But seeing as after announcing a games development, It's a good few years before it's actually released, which might work out perfectally, as WoW becomes a bit more outdated and such. Though they are still making Expansions probably with the same size as The Burning Crusade, I doubt the numbers of subscribers will fall drastically any time. I hope and pray Team 3 = Diablo 3, the fans are always ready =)
YOU DARE QUESTION LITTLE_BOY???
You can't compare Starcraft to Diablo. You can log onto Starcraft and easily play a 15 minute game on Battle.net whenever you want. Diablo takes a lot of time leveling, completing quests, trading/ finding items just to even be able to have a chance in a pk game. I don't know what you have going for you little girl, but once people graduate from high school, they either have all their time tied up with a nine to five or college classes. I'm not gonna have time to do all the things necesary (mainly ALOT of time) to become godly in Diablo 3 in a year.
If my friends and I don't have but 20 minutes a day to hang out in the game and make some progress then its pretty much pointless. If, on the other hand, I had a full pk or mk set up and could just join a quick game and kill sh*t, it'd be worth it. So you can see how time, for me and my friends that are about to graduate at least, can lose interest in a game series because of time.
How dare you call time a "mere thing." Time is what lets you live and can take it from you in an instant. Time is what controls your life. Time ages you into an old and crippled man. Time is something you cannot fight, though it certainly wages war on your body and mind from the time you are born until the time you die and even after you are gone time remains ticking away the life of everyone else. Time can certainly make you grow bored of some things and more fond of others. When there is not enough time for something in your life, there is simply just not enough time... And you cannot fight it.
Time is the puppeteer and we are its puppets.
Come crawling faster, obey your Master, your life burns faster,
obey your Master! Master!
Master of Puppets I'm pulling your strings, twisting your mind and smashing your dreams
Blinded by me, you can't see a thing
Just call my name, `cause I'll hear you scream
Master! Master!
Just call my name, `cause I'll hear you scream
Master! Master!
Blizzard's Starcraft game appeals mainly to the Korean community. What else do Koreans do than play video games, make video games, make things to play video games on, and sit in their country hoping that they won't get nuked by North Korea?
Btw Makkara, what do you do an internship for?

I don't question or challenge your viewpoints and everything, which I respect as much as anyones. You order your priorities in different ways, which is yours to make... I see you kind of... contradict yourself if I presume correct. By first saying you can't compare SC and Diablo, and anyone can log on and play a quick game of SC for 15 minutes. But you also said it would be worth it if you could play Diablo in a 'quick' game and kill stuff. So, if you had but 20 minutes a day to have fun and kill stuff, wouldn't that work perfectly? And I believe we are all prepared to level and queset a character, I think that is expected from everyone. I may have gotten everything wrong, but whatever =P. I know that is indeed what I do for now, I get on, I do some MF runs, or what have you, and its quick and great. I can do the same on SC. I was comparing them by how highly faithful the lot of the fanbase is. Koreas got a bunch of SC fans, yet the relevancy is lost on me. I see quite a fanbase waiting for the ressurection of the Diablo franchise, this website/forum proves it.
btw, you overused the word time, it made the statement a bit monotonous and redundant. However that doesn't really mean anything, cause I can't really criticize opinions. But, come ooon, 'Time is what controls your life'? 'When there is not enough time for something in your life, there is simply just not enough time... And you cannot fight it'? Incredibly off topic, but time is what you make of it, it only controls you if you let it...
A word. If you are thinking Diablo 3 is coming anytime soon, and will not have time otherwise, best forget about it now, cause that'd be quite a waste of *time* =)
And second of all...
F*ck you!
I use the word "time" repetitively to make a point that time is everything. Its not monotonous or redundant. Its called parallel structure. Take a F*cken english class and pay attention.
Read what i said again, this time without being F*cken dumb!
I said, or meant to say (apparently because you dont get it), that if i had the time to become godly before i went to college and could just get on when i had the chance to kill some sh*t it would be worth. But it doesnt look like D3 is going to come out that soon.
North Korea can go to hell for all i care. They are a bunch of mindless idiots who believe Kim Jong-Il is God. In my mind you can be nothing more than an idiot to believe that. Islamo-fasciasts can do the same. 79 Virgins for killing the infadels? My ass!
Next idea that pops into your head... Just let it go...
Thats pretty coo makkara. I wish i could develop animation (it seems interesting), but i'm on my way to pre-med and then internship in a hospital.
When Diablo 2 came out I was 12 years old. Now if Diablo 3 comes out in 2009 or 2009 i'll be in my twenties. I'm a premed major and I'm on a scholarship for tennis. Any free time I get is usually involves getting together with friends, or hanging out with my girlfriend.
I would have very little time to play Diablo 3.
Have you taken an AP exam before Ghost?
Btw Explorer, how has premed been goin' for ya?
Blizzard Entertainment, the developer of Diablo and Diablo II, is looking for a lead 3D environment artist skilled at creating models and texture maps for both architectural and natural environments. The ideal candidate has experience modeling and texturing assets for a diverse visual range of environments, check out the job posting.
Take a look at the job posting here.
check this out guys they are looking for 3d enviro artists, and they say they are producers of diablo and diablo 2..... could this mean something!?!?!?!
If you'd like to introduce yourself you can start a new thread in the introduction forum. Click here.
If not, then welcome to the D3 forums!
I know I'm not hanging up my gamer shoes when my "real" life starts.
I'm sure in the not-so-distant future that children and family will come into question at which point my gaming desires and needs may evolve into something more along the lines which Little Boy described. That is, short, fulfilling bursts of enjoyment be it online or off.
Either way - and I've expressed my sentiment before - I'm absolutely pulling for Diablo 3 to be announced in the neighborhood of a week from tomorrow.
Back to the topic though - does anyone have a timeline where we can see the time from announcement to completion on a Blizzard project, more specifically something from the Diablo series? Maybe a few magazine articles archived away somewhere will let us know if there's an (hard to describe it this way) "average" completion time for the series.
Also, does anyone know how big the team was that developed D1/D2/D2X? I realize this should reflect the fact that there needn't be any 3d modellers, etc. during those years, but was it a massive effort on Blizz's part? In other words, this 40-person team 3 we're speaking of, does it compare to what manpower Blizz has thrown at previous Diablo titles?
Glad to see many people are in the same situation as me. Don't get me wrong im pulling for Diablo 3 as much as anybody. As of right now, im convincing myself that I'll have time to play it. If it ever friggen comes out.
And to Mosk...
Welcomke to the forums. The whole 3D environmental artist for the team behind 1 or 2 is some old news, but perhaps the most significant out of all the D3 rumors.
Treating a new poster like this is pathetic, especially one with such reasoned arguments.
I agree with Duke. I'll play diablo 3 regardless of whether it is released next year or 5 years from now.
Sorry, but If D3 isn't released in a year or two then my enthusiasm will be all but drained. I've already grown bored of Diablo 2 and its just a matter of time before I forget about the future of the series altogether.
I hear first semester of premed chemistry is almost unbearable... and I'll be taking it in a years time. I won't have much time to get acquainted with a new Diablo game at this point in my life.
