Blizzard Confirms New Product Next Month!
"It took a good day of calls and emails, but Blizzard just got back to us about the rumor floating around that Starcraft 2 will be announced next month during their World Wide Invitation in Seoul, South Korea.
According to a Korean website, StarCraft 2 is being developed in 3D with a new race and lots of changes for existing units. The site went on to say that additional details would be revealed during Blizzard's WWI on May 19th in Seoul.
When reached for comment today this was Blizzard's official response:
We do intend to announce a new product at the Worldwide Invitational next month in Korea, and we appreciate the enthusiasm and interest in getting an advance look at what that will be, but players will have to wait until May 19th to find out more. Also, we have a very strong connection with the characters and settings of StarCraft, and we do plan to revisit that universe at some point in the future, but we don't have anything new to announce in that regard at present.
So that's a yes on a StarCraft 2, eventually, and a yes to a product announcement next month. The only question now is are they one in the same. " -Brian Crecente, from Kotaku.
So what do you guys think? A lot of people still believe it's gonna be Starcraft (which would be fine too because, honestly, who wouldn't love to see that game revisited just as much as Diablo?) but after a statement like that, I'm thinking it's gonna either be an announcement for Diablo 3 or a completely new Blizzard title. If it's not a Diablo or Starcraft game, I'm putting my money on TacoCraft.
Alright, let the speculation begin! May 19th simply cannot come soon enough.

Yes you did, but there is still little to no proof that any title coming up will make it to any platform game. Blizzard was on the table before for a platform designed game called, "Starcraft Ghost."
The game was, "supposidly" postponed indefinitely. Insider information- ..Starcraft Ghost was haulted after programmers back themselves into a corner with a faulty engine. The project was later continued from scratch by a partially new development team.
In 2006, Blizzard announced that it would be indefinitely be postponed.

This project was placed on the burner but is not out of the minds of personnel.
Let me point out that Wikipedia has the best info for stuff. =D
"On May 16, 2005, Blizzard Entertainment acquired Swingin' Ape Studios." - Which means Blizzard reowns everything that was contracted out to Starcraft Ghost. What happens when you give a project you want done to someone else and it doesn't get done?
I know what I do, I do it myself.
I have the highest hopes for Diablo 3 like the rest of you.
But you might be getting a Console MMO FPS with Single Player and Multiplayer, where you can level your character for certs. Might be space based. Who knows!?

I highly doubt that they will be announcing two titles though. The only thing that will do is divide people's currently undivided attention away from the focus of things. One game now, then wait a few months, then the next one at Blizzcon/E3. That's what I'm thinking.
But that's just me.
yeah...thats me
2 sides to every coin.
Based on what they've done in the past, there'll probably be a completely new set of classes to pick from, but if they also decide to implement a progression system more like D1, that would kick ass.
In response to those who have lost faith that it will be Diablo 3, remember that Blizzard has disclosed info to gaming steve, and that the game has not only been in production, but that they started rumor mongering with the job postings back a year or two ago. With all that taken into consideration, it seems that announcing anything BUT D3 would be unlikely at best.
However, the fact that it's in Korea still raises the SC2 issues, and I think that combining six years of inactivity while they worked on WoW stuff and the fact that we've now had conflicting information regarding what game is likely to be released indicates more than one announcement. A dual title release would be perfect in terms of getting Blizzard back on track with creating other titles.
Remember also that Blizzard stated they had 4 projects they were working on, one of which would be announced in 2007. So what they could be doing is announcing both titles, but while D3 has been being worked on for a while and could release this year or early next, they could announce SC2 as having begun and give a release date somtime in the END of 2008.
But now my post is really long, so I'll stop typing heh.
*Edit* I forgot, but don't forget the biggest thing yet. Diablo has had a lot of trademark activity in the last 2 years. There has been nothing like that for SC2, and they would do that BEFORE a release. So if they're announcing anything but something WoW related it HAS to be D3 since that's the only thing they've done trademark stuff for recently. HAH! So it has to be D3.
My money is on the new product being Starcraft 2.
Dude didnt you read the statement that Blizzard made??
They said, they do plan to revisit SC universe in some point in the future, but they dont have anything new to announce dealing with SC at present. Its an implication that it will not be SC related. DUh, people dont seem to see what Blizzard is saying in that statement.
I do expect a Starcraft game though, even though i dont like it. Even simply cause its gonna be in Korea is reason enough to make u believe it.
Muttonchopstradamus says that they will announce an entirely new franchise, or they will announce Starcraft 2.
