posted a message on Random Thought: Enchanting Improvements
    Hi everyone,

I'm just thinking out loud here about the status of current loot in Diablo 3. I've been reading these forums for a while now and there's a continuous debate on how much drop rate are good/suck and how enchanting is a pain, etc. There's also talk about how little incentive Blizzard is giving to players to push their character to the limits and move up in torment levels. This thread is not a discussion on my personal view of the state of the game, but rather and incentive option that Blizzard could consider in order to help solve some of these issues. I'll call it the Enchantress' Key

What is this? Blizzard has already incentivized player to move to torment with the torment-only legendaries. Through basic enchanting (remember I'm not discussing RNG here) a player can improve their gear to compete up to T3 respectively by enchanting ONE affix. Once again, this doesn't count RNG.... So say you get a Shard of Hate.... The odds of getting this itemis rare given legendary drop chance AND the other legendary swords that compete withit for that drop chance. Now say you get it with no sockets and vitality! This would normally cause the sword to become an instant soul if it could not compete in DPS with your current weapon.

Here's the good part. Say you're able to work into T4, and you find a drop: the Enchantress' key! This allows you to unlock another affix for enchanting for one-time only. So you can enchant to get your socket and then enchant the vitality away for something like a main stat. BAM! Now you have a viable Shard of Hate that will allow you progress further into the more difficult torments potentially. If RNG happens, you farm another one to allow you to enchant that second affix again. So now you take legendaries that you absolutely want but may not have the best rolls and can slowly turn them into something you desire. This is similar to the AH where there were tons of crappy legendaries on the market but you looked for ones that upgraded your toon. Blizzard should want you to get to the top of your game and rock out T6! You are incentivized to farm higher torments and start slowly changing your legendaries into stats that you want, outside of the one affix rule. Please keep in mind I'm talking legendary only enchanting. Yellows are a dime a dozen and you may eventually find one with the stats you want.

Let's say Blizzard further incentivizes you by exponentially increasing these Enchantress' Key drops from T4- T6, making T6 the most viable option to farm them. Don't make it linear. Make it drop very frequent on T6 ( how blizzard implements this to prevent exploits would be another topic of discussion such as elites only).

With the drop rate where it's at currently, I sincerely enjoy seeing the orange/green bar on my screen but get really bummed out if the legendary rolls terrible on an item I've been waiting to get. In a no-trade scenario, with the materials being bind on account, this only helps to boost the individual putting time and effort into their character. The alt-friendliness on this method is something I'm torn about. I like that you could gear up an alt fast with this method but then you may not put any time into enjoying the gear grind on the alt.

    I'm curious on your thoughts.

    Regards,

    Ushabti

    Question about the paragon 2.0:

Are your current characters retaining their pre 2.0 portraits? Or do they all change to whatever paragon level you're currently at?

    Thanks.
