Been playing around with the new 1.0.8 skill buffs and decided to try to figure out an arcane torrent build. I have always loved this skill and I'm glad to see it getting some attention finally. This build is centered around arcane torrent so obviously arcane power is a factor. While this build may not be perfect in higher mps, this is a fun alternative to archon and cm builds. So lets get started.
Gear: Obviously, get as much damage as you can. Try to keep your attack speed low enough. Also look for APOC gear and reduced cost of arcane torrent gear (helms, skull grasp, etc). Survivability isn't as important because this is a range build but keep it so you can stay alive obviously but don't sacrifice a lot of damage because you will be using illusionist so you want most hits to deal 15%+ damage, also life steal on your weapon is huge for staying alive so try to have it.
Skills:
1. Arcane torrent (cascade)
285% damage with mild aoe, enough said this should do it for your damage output, in a large crowd cascade goes a long way, eventually you have a storm of torrents doing solid damage. This is interchangable with disruption or power stone but I prefer cascade.
2. Teleport (wormhole)
This is what makes this build effecient. With the buff to teleport you can fly around all day while kiting with torrents. With illusionist, your cooldown is resetting all the time. Very fast, very effecient.
3. Diamond skin (crystal shell)
Obviously this is for when you get caught up in a crowd to stay alive, be careful when you use this, because you want to be taking hits for illusionist. Can be interchanged with prism for arcane power.
4. Magic weapon (conduit)
Damage buff is nice, obviously you want as much damage as you can get, conduit provides arcane power which is important with this build. Can be interchanged with blood magic for life steal.
5. Familiar (arcanot)
2 arcane power per second is more than it may seem like, really helps keep up your arcane power. If you dont need the arcane power and have enough reduction or APOC then turn on sparkflint.
6. Energy Armor (pinpoint barrier)
Obviously the survivability helps as long as you are taking enough damage for illusionist. 5% crit chance is great for damage and APOC. You could change it out for prismatic armor if you really need the all resistance again, as long as your taking 15% per hit.
Passives:
1. Glass cannon
15% damage, survivabilty reduction for illusionist, perfect.
2. Astral presence
Its all about the arcane power with this build, and heres a perfect bonus.
3. Illusionist
This is what makes this build great because if you are resetting teleport, you can fly around all day while spamming arcane torrent, you'll be surprised at how fast it really is. You could change this out for critical mass if you are critting enough and are having trouble taking the hits, but critical mass doesnt work the best with torrent. Up to you.
And thats the build guys, hope you enjoy. I still have tons of work to do on my Wiz and right now shes naked...
