Perhaps just dot point the restrictions of how you handled gear/AH etc edited in the first post give all those reading this a bit more context to your effort.
good idea! some people are probably wondering about that
Lol, I'm not sure if that's possible (without days of farming :P). DH by design pretty much allows you to do anything that doesn't involve an enrage timer with no gear
I would recommend more resists, act2 has a lot of fast/annoying mobs in it, the fast ones don't hit that hard, and not very hard at all with around 200+ resist. (ok still moderately hard hitting, but it helps!). I spent around 100k on gear and could afford that same amount of dps and health, plus 180ish resists.
Hungering arrow can be almost twice as much single target damage than evasive fire! Spray of teeth sacrifices a little bit of that strong single target damage (devouring) for extra AoE damage
Finally got around to making a summary video of this. I did another budget run recently, except the budget was 0g
All gear and repairs had to be paid for with gold found in the run. Enjoy!
These were the actual rules:
All gear/gold removed from character at start
Buying from AH is allowed
No selling items on AH, since there's a good chance at getting too much gold! (I found a couple of items in the run that would have sold for around 200-500k)
All elites must be killed
The last rule I figured could be bent a bit, since you're bound to hit an impossible one now and then, I thought maybe a 25-50k gold penalty for each elite pack skipped would be a good idea (I had to skip one!)
Caltrops/Torturous Ground is the only thing that can slow fast elites so I always keep that in there
Smoke Screen/Lingering is always important for getting out of sticky/jailed situations
Preparation is super important for keeping the disc pool filled, I really like the focused mind rune since the over-time effect allows using it early and being super efficient. Another good rune is backup plan, but it can really suck when it doesn't proc. I also wouldn't use backup plan for stuff like this to avoid controversy (ie "he only killed xxx because he got a couple of bp procs")
Vault is great for mobility (tumble to save on disc), good for kiting, escaping (you can pass through mobs with it), tripling run speed etc, and its cheap!
Hungering Arrow is too good to pass up for its superb single target damage.
Cluster Arrow is my choice of hatred spender, I prefer to spend a lot in one shot. I used mostly Loaded for Bear in the run for extra control (I prefer cluster bomb when doing normal runs)
Entangling/Justice is Served to generate fast hatred.
Cluster Bomb to unload heavy damage during each smoke screen
Mark instead of Vault to increase DPS/hatred
I had tried SP/Gloom instead of Smoke Screen, but a couple of cluster bombs still killed me right through it
I don't understand how you found most of your gear for the prices you've listed. Could you go into a bit of depth on your auction house strategy? I'd love to be able to pick up a bow like that for 10,000 gold, since that same blue dps-type bow costs over 2 million last I checked
Not to flame you or anything, but isn't this more an expression of the gear prices falling rather than anything else? You have more DPS than I did when I cleared up to Siegebreaker (Post SS nerf, Pre NT and Inferno nerf), but less health. I had around 18k dps and 20k hp for Belial (and no resistance), and my gear was not less than a 100k at that time.
These challenges are cool and all, but I must admit it's getting a bit much. It started out as a proof that you can clear Inferno without farming your ass off, now it's more of an every day occurrence. No hatin'!
everyday? hey now, nobody else has posted a low dps glass cannon ghom kill, this is different!
How do you cope with those nasty packs with fast/invul affix? With such a low defence, dps and resists I just can't imagine you killing them.
im not sure if i ran into any 'fast'+invul packs, but they might be part of those '2 skipped' if they were bad enough (unless they're near the door :P)
The bosses video is nice, but all the other parts are being locked out from Germany due to music rights. :\
Would have been nice for me to watch you handle those damage reflect packs.
For people who are locked from the full run there is also the twitch.tv version at http://twitch.tv/mukunda_ (goto videos/page2/3) although one part is missing from there (the part with the teleporting oppressors unfortunately :P)
Am I the only one that is sceptic for this kind of competition?
Ppl should really post which servers they are playing at as there's huge diffrences in prices, if they want this as a decent competition.
Should also set some time limit for items at AH. Like max 1h to buy all gear. But ppl can cheat here aswell, they could just tell X nr of ppl to put out stuff at ah at X time.
Not saying that this is easy done, what you did, not at all. But I think it's better to just screw the gold limit and keep it to stats instead. Like "I killed X with X dps and X hp and X AR", at least then it would be equal to all servers and tons easier to compare.
Prices keep dropping every day and soon we'll probably see "Full inferno clear 2500 gold spent!"
100k is just an easy way to give the idea of "I killed X with X dps and X hp and X AR", which is exactly what this is. it only took like 10 mins to buy the gear, and i was avoiding buying vit/resist to make it hard. if i didnt end up with at least 30k dps i would have replaced a few pieces/spent a little more to bump it above that threshold
I think you should expand the title to 100k gold plus repair costs...
Just for curiosity, did you take note on how much did you spent in repairs? Despite that, its a good run and a chance to prove that with skill and not equipment alone, the game can be beaten.
I would probably break even if I was vendoring the blues, I mean I didn't die that much The gold pickups alone might have covered it, I didn't keep track

Not too many that I couldn't afford :P... It was quite a few though on some of the packs :/

My main build ( http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#aPYXVd!aYe!YcZZYb ) allows for a lot of control when dealing with elites.

It was sad how OP wizards were, glass cannon with the ability to take 3 hits, and making bank selling us gear
(OK OK we were kind of super OP too during the first week...)
