40 of "Resist X" on 2 pieces of gear each means you would have 80 resist per school.
Compare that to 20 "Resist All" per piece - this would give you 240 resist per school, and 20 Resist All is INCREDIBLY cheap on gear.
There's absolutely no reason to get individual resist without all resist,
Every piece of "Resist X" compared to an equal amount of "Resist All" is worth 1/6th the value.
I hope that clears things up a bit.

I'd need 220 or so resist X on two items to reach what I have now. Doh.

Basically I have one question:
Why does everyone stack Resist All rather than individual resistances on different items? Wouldn't that be cheaper for the same effect?
Longer story:
I'm in Inferno Act 2 at the moment, playing and gearing defensively while usually in a group with some DHs and Wizards for dps[/corpses]. I spec for tanking for them basically, cleave aoe slow, seismic slam stun, ignore pain with mob rule, and war cry ofc. I'm purely melee, and stay alive using all that + 30% revenge and armour leap.
Currently I've got 620-710 resistance overall (with Impunity), 77k health and 7.7k armor.
Only 4366 dps at the moment, though.
My gear was reasonably cheap (350k helm and everything else probably 40k on average :P). And I think that was because I didn't mind taking pieces with no strength, and sometimes with random INT/DEX on.
I'm looking to up my dps in general, but I don't want to sacrifice too much in the way of defensive stats because.. well, I seem to need it. But it seems that's going to be mighty expensive. So I'm thinking about what might be the most efficient purchases to make, and I have a question for you lot!
All Barbs seem to talk about the Resist All stat as their method of getting resistance. And because everyone goes for it, it's super expensive..
Is there a reason why nobody seems to gear it through individual resists instead? There are 12 item slots, and 6 different schools to resist. So I'm thinking, why not get two items of each resist type + other useful stuff? I'd only need on average 37 resist -something- on each item to get where I am now with resists, and those items are probably mighty cheap compared to Resist All items.
So, why does everybody go for that?
I'm just wondering if I'm missing something, before I go for it. They won't be very efficient purchases if I'm wrong.
