Really like the ideas. Item ideas like these would make me really jazzed to get RoS and find items.

I really hope Blizzard takes a look at some of these user created item ideas and gets some inspiration, unfortunately I just feel very ho-hum about the "new items".

I had issues copying my characters over too. The Upgrade banner kept hiding it. What fixed it for me was going to the character select screen and selecting my level 1 hero again. Then the upgrade banner went away and I was able to copy my characters over.

Hmm - apparently this isn't a 100% fix or anything. I also had to log in and our twice before above solution worked. I suppose I might have just gotten lucky.

I killed one elite pack, which was fun because it had one of the new mods on it and got a level 61 drop and zero paragon exp, so i immediately logged off.

On a positive note, and maybe it is just a new shiny feel, but the game play feels even smoother and the graphics seem a lot crisper. It could be my eyes and my age playing tricks on me though.

Honestly? I'm perfectly fine with that crusader thorns build being OP, in fact id opt for it to be even stronger because the fact is to get that build to work it needs the right item in every slot, hes basically full best in slot for that build. That's how a diablo game should work, difficult at first but once uve got everything and ure 100% geared for ure build you steamroll the game, it should take a long time before your at the point where you have that level of gear on every slot but that point should exist.

I don't want thorns to become a competitive stat, I like there being stats which are basically pointless unless you build this one certain way and suddenly it becomes OP, having crazy build options like that is what makes a game more fun.

What he said. The more niche builds that require a specific hard to achieve set of gear the more interesting the game will become.

I'm buying the PS4 version for the reset, not because I can't trade. My point was that some people like myself find it boring running the same end game when OP repeatedly... and trading just gets you there much faster.

Video games are not all sandboxes, and while Diablo 3 may give you some elements of freedom, video games (just like a book or movie) are created with a particular vision in mind. Even board games have rules created to define their particular vision.

And actually, it DOES matter to Blizzard as they have EXPLICITLY said it matters to them (fail argument on your part).

Lastly, I completely understand the fact that Blizzard never intended the game to be played for 1000+ hours in a year and a half. But that doesn't change the fact that they have a vision of what they want the game to be, and regardless of whether or not you agree, trading brakes that vision.

My question still stands though, if the PS4 version had trading in it, would you trade, or is the only reason you are not trading due to the inability to do so? I am just trying to understand why there needs to be BOA for item progression when that clearly can be governed by the players by choosing to play self-found own their own.

Also, what else did you expect Blizzard to say other than the obvious PR response regarding how long they want you to enjoy the game?

Truthfully, BoA itself doesn't bother me, as I am playing the game self-found already. I am just trying to understand the opposite side of the argument because I haven't heard any real compelling arguments on why it is necessary to "save" the game.

I am more bothered by the fact that it comes off as a lazy design decision. Sort of like how increasing difficultly in this game just amounts to more mob damage and health. I'd rather have an insanely fun Diablo 3 with an item "life cycle" of 100 hours vs. a Diablo 3 that becomes incredibly dull and repetitive after 20 hours and has an item "life cycle" of 1000 hours.

@Shaggy - You are forgetting something important about D2 vs D3: Diablo 2 wiped your accounts every 90 days of inactivity.

This was a MASSIVE item sink, and required you to re-level and regear multiple times over the course of D2's lifespan. I mean seriously, how many people literally never let their account(s) get wiped?

In Diablo 3s case, items in circulation- stay in circulation. Once you gear up, you never have to again. As Blizzard has said, trading short circuits what is intended to be the game life cycle.

I plan on buying the ps4 version for multiple reasons, but included is the replayability inherent in a complete reset. If I leave the game for a while, only to come back to my OP in a day geared account (from trading/ah/3rd party sites)... I have nothing further to do.

Plain and fricking simple... trading breaks the games INTENDED life cycle. It causes the INTENDED end game of the item hunt to be short circuitable via economic trading or twinking.

So, you're telling me if trading was enabled on the PS4 version you just would lack any sort of control to play the game without trading? You can't play self-found on your own volition? You need to be forced to play self-found otherwise you just can't help yourself?

The only person the "life cycle" should matter to is the individual person who bought the game. They are the one who spent $60 on the game. This isn't a subscription based game, it doesn't matter to Blizzard (and shouldn't matter to your neighbor) if you play 200 hours or 4000 hours. If someone wants to trade and cut down their "life cycle" to 20 hours ... well then that is their choice.

I really think what everyone should be more focused on is whether or not the game itself actually fun to play or not. Because if it sucks, it doesn't matter if the "life cycle" is 6000 hours or 10 ... the game still sucks.

This is an old and un-winnable fight, though. It's just not gonna happen, so no point in re-hashing it in forums.

Maybe you should do yourself a favor and not bring it up then? The majority of the thread was debating the topic of DRM. I didn't once espouse that Diablo 3 should or shouldn't be online only. I only stated that there are other applications than just seeing the $$$ such as security.

So, don't pull that shit where you attack someone by saying they don't have any backbone and when they respond you pull the "Oh, this topic has been done to death so it isn't worth discussing" card. That is absolutely juvenile and completely lacking any sort of backbone, ironically.

    Unplayable? I don't remember that.
Maybe it's because I had the option of playing offline by myself, over LAN's, or over TCP/IP with my friends.
Do you know how many options you have when the D3 servers are offline or when they are sending your latency over 300 (which is a common occurence in EU)? One: Esc--> Quit. Awesome.

I hear ya and it sucks. I know when I wanted to play with some of my "friends" on battle.net and there were 3 minute lag spikes it was pretty horrible as well. If Blizzard went with off-line only architecture I'd be fine with that too. The only objection I have in them straddling the line and providing both features just because it logistically doesn't work. They'd be spending the majority of their time combating all of the issues with battle.net rather than focusing on any sort of game development.

You're right, you caught me. My degree in MIS and building websites for the past 4+ years has taught me nothing about client/server side architecture.

I do find it sad though how others are completely unable to admit they didn't know everything, even when if you read over there previous messages it's very easy to tell they didn't or they would have just said it when I asked.

Do you really think that is the problem or maybe it is your simple, rudimentary understanding about client-side vs. server side and how code bases are managed? I'm sorry I didn't put on kiddie gloves and walk you through it step-by-step but I figured that anyone that was debating this topic as feverishly as you were would have some basic knowledge about the topic.

    @Maka

I care because the last time that this shit happened in D2 the game was unplayable for weeks on end. In terms of the items or duping it doesn't bother me one bit, but the nasty side of effects of lag are enough to make me care about the topic.

No, that's exactly what Ruksak and I have been saying the entire time, we just didn't think we'd have to explain that maintaining two different code bases, outside of ports to Playstation or Xbox, would be a giant waste of both time, resources and money.

Thanks shaggy for the first real informed response, I feel like I learnt something from that. Now i'm wondering your saying you need to be able to see the server code and without that information there would be no way of understanding how to trick the server (which is what I was trying to say earlier but didn't put it in such an elegant way). The thing I don't understand is why would you be able to see server code if your only running the game in a single player mode? Does it still need to run server-side code even if your not actually running a server, just a single player client? If you were to try and set it up through a LAN game would that require sever code to be running?

Wow ... so you couldn't infer that when I was saying single player/off-line mode that it was in reference to the client? Absolutely incredible and you're the one trying to tell us we don't understand the difference between the client-side and server-side? Yikes!

Fitsu, there really isn't much more I can say about it. if you aren't willing to accept that people are having an easier time hacking Torchlight 2 because there is an off-line mode and their modding tools provide insight on the underpinnings of how the game works then the conversation just isn't worth having and we can agree to disagree.

And what points in the other direction? I don't know, pretty much every client side game that is riddled with hacks no more than 3 hours after it launches versus the level of effort involved in every other on-line only game mentioned above and how they are much, much, much cleaner in terms of "hacking".
