Edit: Or replace your gloves or your boots. FYI, Fire Walkers are just eye candy boots. The only time they're truly justifiable are when used by fire resist monks.

The biggest problem is that people think farming >MP1 is all about DPS and a LS weapon.
It's not, you need to increase your survivability - running 500 AR wont get anyone very far in MP2+ unless you are stacking 200k+ unbuffed.
In your case 290 AR - you will get destroyed at MP2, your health pool is too low also.
I don't know where you get 290, I have close to 500, and then with my armor close to 700. The problem with life steal is that all weapons with life steal seam to have much lower dps, although I might be recalling searching for LS and APoC.
How much should I spend on a weapon?

Do you have problems with survivability? If yes, get LS weapon, if no, you can probably get 1) witching hour or 2) zuni boots+zuni ring.
I don't think the vile ward is a rip off. You may be able to get a few millions more but not much more.
I can farm MP1 pretty easy. Id like to get that up so I can go for hellfire ring. I can do MP2, but I die often on elites. Man, witching hours are expensive. Are they worth it?

You could get the socketed andariels to offset the damage loss from gaining more EHP from chest / pants.

Hmm monster power 2 is doable. Ill say I died on 33% of the elite encounters, so probably not that efficient. However, tactially, I could just get to 5 NV and then only actively look for mobs, skipping difficult elites. might make sense for the xp boost.
Any shield can have bonuses to Wiz specific abilities, same as with Sources. Rares can be quite good. Try to get a Sacred Shield, they have the highest Block amount.
What do you mean by witch-doctor shield? Shields are not class-specific.

What's my worst piece of gear; i.e. what should I look to replace? Hopefully for under 1million. With this build I can trash MP0, and do MP1 (can do runs without dying, usually die a few times depending on the elite abilities). I haven't tried MP2.
I found a legendary withdoctor shield yesterday. It made me wonder, why no shields for wizards? Obviously it shouldn't do the same thing as a source, but witchdoctors have the equivalent of sources, so why no shields geared for wizards?
As most people have said,your gear can actually be replaced totally,almost every piece imo.But depending on your current gear i think the highest upgrade would be a triumvirate Off-hand as it'd both boost your crit chance dramatically and increase your raw dps as you bought a non-elemental dmg main hand,whether you did it on purpose or not.
But still,your items barely have 2 essential affixes on them,let alone high rolls of those. SO yea,i think you got work to do ;-)
Yep, I found a TRI for 1 million that increased my dps by 11k. Gonna see if I can breeze thru MP1 now; been doing no MP because even with my non-optimal build I can still breeze thru it, 250-400k an hour.
Ok, I used the "Equipped Items" and "Equipped Comparison" tabs of the spreadsheet,and I can't find any weapons or helms that will increase my damage output (for 1million). Im assuming the comparison tab compares against the relevant item entered in the Items tab? This XLS is awesome. It's accurate to within 2-3 hundred, and thats because it assumes all sockets use the same level gem.
Yeah, it assumes all sockets for a given item use the same gem, otherwise you can just put the average gem value if needed.
Yes, the comparison tab compares the stats of the item you put in the boxes to your equipped item of the same slot. There are two boxes so you can compare up to 2 items to your equipped item.
