A lot of assumption on your 3monk set up, in fact the only thing I would say accurate is having 1 "tank" barb, then you consider damage + mods, damage reduction, single target dps, cleave dps, aoe dps, cc, and more cc,
But given the right team build, stacking defense and offence multipliers like monk auras, warcries and stuns. Sharing damage in between the team. How much coordination is really needed?
How long before people start using premade team builds and we see the LFT chat filled with "Monkway GLF M1+M4 to go", "Meleeway GLF Monk2 and Barb1 to go" or even "Wizway LF Nuker".
If you stack enough defense, to you really have to think further then just staying together and playing "your role"?
also keep in mind Magic find, aoe vs single target damage, spell resistences let alone how useful a "tank" barb will be in hell/inferno. There is a lot of variation and "important things" to fill. I think a specialized group will be vital for inferno.
You are forgetting the main selling point of the summons, especially gargantuan. They act as meatshields allowing you to stand still and dps on the monsters while they get hammered, sort of a cc.
Their main purpose is defense. The extra damage is just gravy.

So this confirms my point that the are basically just glorified meatshields.
Meatshields that still do decent damage, sounds good for a pet. As you mentioned WD pets aren't ment to be the answer for everything.

build/group
but OP some of your statements don't make sense, If inferno is as hard as expected then cc'ing and seperating packs with it will be huge
