Shamus had a few good tips gear wise. But honestly man, demon hunter is a glass cannon. Its pretty much RNG. You need to actively vault and stutter step to avoid 90% of the damage whilst maintaining max range if possible. And when you do get hit, you need to pray that wraps of clarity is enough of a damage prevention. You can also use shadow power with gloom rune.
Another tip. Change evaisive fire to bola with the cold damage rune (cant remember the name but it shoots 3 bolas at once) with leonines cubed instead of calamity. Allows you to group up and stun/freeze most monsters. It can pretty much render a whole screen useless if used correctly.
Change out your Mark for death rune to contagion. Place it on one mop in each pack.
The damage type on the weapon only affects attacks that are not modified by skills. EG you have no hatred and you auto attack, this attack will be the element of the weapon. But since you are doing the multishot build, im presuming you take the arsenal rune. If you read this it says it changes multishot to fire damage.
On a side note, its funny how many demon hunters i see do the wrong thing. If your yangs doesnt have discipline on it. Make sure you roll for that stat above all else. If it already has discipline, then go for others.

Taking 2 weeks off work for d3.... Nerd leave as I like to call it. Even told my boss I was taking it off for a game. Found out he is also taking time off for the same reason
