Diablo is still a big part of Blizzard, which is why it has a demo area still. The necro pack was also released this year. I think after loot 2.0, they are still trying to define which direction the game industry is going to go.
With so many games based on loot boxes nowadays, Diablo is still one of those games where its exclusively designed behind the actual monsters rather than the many play to win titles out there. The very same reason it's special is the very mechanism which is holding it back as far as corporate decisions go.

Thunderfury can attack pretty fast and since damage really isn't a priority to me, pairing with Wyrdward makes the Templar incredibly useful most of the time in my opinion. Any other combos I find don't proc enough to be useful with elites or large groups since they all mostly require single targets.
This is practically a life saver in high GRs, and while the Eun-Jang-Do can freeze for a longer period, Thunderfury's proc rate makes it more useful to classes which damage mobs way beyond it's 20% proc rate requirement.

I got the pack just for the stash space and character slots, and the necromancer ended up being one of my favorite classes, I never played the pet builds much but it felt perfectly balanced.
