posted a message on Need a laptop for D3
There are a lot of choices out there that will play D3. My advice is as follows:

    - Intel i5 or better.
    - MORE than 4GB of ram
    - nVidia graphics (there is an ambient occlusion setting that looks pretty sweet)
    - Check TigerDirect.com (seemed like they had more options than NewEgg for this)
    - If possible, bring a computer geek with you to the store. Sales people are not always trust worthy.

posted a message on Console and PC servers
I very much doubt the possibility of console players interacting with PC players. For one thing Microsoft has a "no cross-platform" policy that disallows xbox games from being cross-platform (they tried to use this concept in a proprietary way using 'Games for Microsoft Windows Live').

As a PC gamer I love companies like Blizzard (and id software) who still focus on the PC first and console second.

Also, I'd really like to see the game industry move toward more cross-platform implementations. I think they will (slowly) move in this direction if not for any other reason that I think more and more gamers are wanting that as a feature.

You can think of getting a beta key similarly to getting a woman...

I can't... I'd rather have a beta key than a woman. Women come and go, but being a part of the D3 beta is a once in a lifetime opportunity. : )

posted a message on Should We Really Call it Skill Runes Anymore? What Would You Call It?
My opinion is that instead of runes they should be "skill crystals" or "skill stones" but the word "Rune" doesn't belong given the prescedent set in Diablo II. The Diablo universe has already defined "rune stones" as items to be socketed into equipment.

Personally, I would have liked to see "Rune Stones" stay as equipment modifiers (even if they had to be simplified in some way) while adding "Skill Stones" or "Skill Crystals" for skill augmentation.

For a game so focused on loot I just don't see a good reason to remove anything people enjoyed receiving as a drop. Rergardless, I expect D3 will be an enjoyable experience albeit different from past games.

posted a message on Diablo Movie: Can you imagine it?
    @dnavarre
LoL, monsters spewing loot in the movie...

My opinion on this movie idea is that I would love to see a Diablo movie, but only if creative control was in the hands of Peter Jackson and had the graphic violence of a zombie flick.

Unfortunately that probably wouldn't be the case. So... with that said my real opinion is that with all the game-based movies that have just plain sucked over the years, I would be really reluctant to whore out our beloved Diablo Franchise to Hollywood. It drives me nuts when they make a movie about a game I loved and then butcher it into a cheesey piece of fluff for teenagers.

Custom built Intel i7 system with 12GB of ram, Nvidia GTX 570, and a 120GB SSD (system drive). The rest of the compoenents are inconsequential.

posted a message on Which memory do you remember the best from Diablo franchise?
One more note about the butcher from D1:

That little room he was in was PACKED full of gore - impaled or dismembered bodies everywhere, entrails all over the floor... being a kid at the time I remember feeling a sense of real fright (and excitement) when I knew I was going to have to confront the butcher and hear him exclaim "Ah, fresh meat!".

This element of horror in an rpg really appealed to me. There just wasn't anything quite like it at the time.

posted a message on Which memory do you remember the best from Diablo franchise?
My favorite memories are still attached to the original Diablo.

I remember having a demo for Diablo 1 way back around the time I was playing command and conquer and Warcraft 2. The demo only let you play up until the butcher (do you remember the butcher?) but I enjoyed the game so much I spent hours re-playing the demo as the dynamic dungeon generation kept making my replays fresh. (It was, afterall, a new concept then).

Expanding on the story above, the D1 demo I had required some arcaeic version of Direct X and back then Win 95 was the common OS. I'll never forget staying over at friends house and (after some convicing) got him to let me install the game on his parents brand new computer. Well, the direct X installation somehow managed to crash and corrupt his parents fancy new computer and I spent all night fixing it.

I was 12 or 13 back then and now I'm almost 30. That was my first experience causing a major computer issue and being able to fix it on my own without help. 17 - 18 years later I'm a computer programmer and I consider Diablo 1 as having played a roll in fostering that interest.

I know a lot of that trailed away from game content, but when I think about Diablo nostalgia that is a prime meory for sure.

posted a message on Rare and Champion Loot > Boss Loot
I voted that its a good thing because it takes focus off of boss rushes. If there is less incentive to do boss rushes it prolongs a sense of monotany setting in (though I doubt we have to worry about that for a while).

On the other hand, it makes sense to gain greater rewards from defeating a boss.

I think when its all said and done nobody is going to feel 'robbed' after they kill a boss and so the benefit of reducing boss rushing tendencies is more important to the game itself.

posted a message on New class in D3 expansion !
I wasn't sure what to suggest, but while reading the other posts it occurred to me that it might be cool to have a class that is essentially a lesser demon that has chosen to defect and fight for good. Not sure how that meshes with the plot, but I personally enjoy playing evil characters. ;)

But I will say this... if they implement an "Orc" class I will be pissed.

posted a message on All 3 DiabloFans contests = pure fail
The OP does make a good point regarding the effect these giveaways can have, and I personally refuse to participate in Facebook & Twitter giveaways. Using social networks seems more about advertising and hype where promoting the forums at least encourages the growth of the community aspect.

As somebody who doesn't usually post in forums, I admit I'm attracted only by the opportunity to get my hands on a beta key. All though, one positive aspect to this contest format is that it encourages me to participate in forum discussions. I mean, sure I may not be back right away if I get a beta key out of this, but now that I have a forum account created it makes posting again in the future much more likely as I usually avoid signing up for this stuff, but that step is now out of the way.

posted a message on [Official] Release Date Speculation Thread
I agree with those leaning toward end of June. I suspect they will use every bit of their new "Q2 Release Target" to tweak systems and add content (full itemization). Since Blizzard is known to announce release dates about 2 months prior to release (so I've been reading) it makes sense we won't have an official release date until late March or April.

I think its also worth noting that the game was officially accounced June 28th, 2008. A June release would be an even four years, plus I've read on other forums that blizzard favors late spring / early summer for releases (haven't verified that last part).
